I am currently performing an experiment. I am trying to find the best way to freeze some DHMO overnight and have it ready for the next day without having to wait a long time to let it thaw. At this moment I have a water bottle filled with DHMO, and I have inserted a straw covered with saran-wrap (to prevent the straw from freezing in the DHMO.) I figured that by inserting a straw into the DHMO and then removing it after it had frozen, I would have a space big enough to pour hot water into and break up the frozen DHMO. I'm not sure how well this experiment will work, but we shall soon see if it does.
