Never Separate
“Yama-chan… Don’t go…” Chinen looked directly at Yamada’s eyes, his tears about to overflow and his vision almost blurred from the watery sight.
“I don’t want to, either, Chii… I’m sure you know that it hurts me too - the fact that I have to leave and study abroad for three years…” Yamada’s heart ached as he witnessed the two teardrops release from Chinen’s eyes and fall down his cheeks. Also in the verge of breaking down on his knees, he still continued, voice shaky, “But… We have no choice. My parents stated that if I don’t go study abroad, they will forbid me from being an idol and will cut all ties with JE. They even said that… that I have to stay away from all my friends from then on… Even you, Chii. I wouldn’t be able to be with you anymore if that happens…”
“NO!” Chinen rushed to Yamada, both feeling the hard thud as their chests collided when the younger one hugged his loved one. “I… I never want that to happen…!!” He yelled, face buried in Yamada’s chest, as icy, painful drops of liquid streamed from his swelled-up eyes, “But… I still don’t want you to go… Three years… I can’t bare anything without you for so long…”
Yamada tightened his hold on Chinen, running his hand down his back softly. One teardrop couldn’t take it anymore, and at last was exposed to air, rolling freely, hurtfully, from Yamada’s eyes. The older one quickly rubbed it away.
He was angry and sad. He felt weak, like all his energy was drained. I already feel like this… So how much more is Chii hurting…?
But still, Yamada knew he needed to be strong. This was the hardest situation both had ever come across in their entire relationship together, but they can’t just give up now.
“Demo ne, Chii…” Yamada held Chinen’s shoulders and pulled him slightly away. “However long I’m gone… However long we’re apart… I’m sure that whatever happens… We will never separate.” Yamada smiled gently, caressed his lover’s cheeks and softly brushed his tears away, “You’ll always be in my heart Chii… and no one else.”
Chinen sniffed, “I know… And you’ll always be in mine, Yama-chan…” Although, at that state, he wanted to be one-hundred percent sure, “But… How will I know if, after a few months pass by, that this will still be true…?”
“Ok… Let me show you something.”
Yamada led Chinen to a couch. They sat down and he faced Chinen. Holding both the younger one’s hands infront of them, he said, “Here. Put the two thumbs of each of your hands, together - as if you were to do a thumb print, but just to each other.” Chinen was confused, but he did it anyway, following everything else Yamada said after. “Now your index fingers. Face them against each other. Then your ring fingers, then both your pinkies. But for you middle fingers, bend them first, then put them against each other.”
Chinen tilted his head, “Yama-chan why am I doing this?”
“You’ll see now.
“So, you’re six fingers and two thumbs represent the people in your life. Your index fingers, they represent your parents. Try pulling both apart.” Chinen did, and he was able to tap them against each other, “You being able to do that means that there is a possibility you might let each other go.
“Now try your pinkies. They represent any siblings you have.” Chinen did so, and the same thing happened. “This also means that there is a possibility you might let each other go.
“And your thumbs, they represent your future children,” Chinen tried them too and the same thing happened, “And this also means similar things, that you might let each other go.
“Now try your ring fingers,”
Chinen did so, expecting the same thing to happen, but it surprised him when the opposite occurred... “Are…? How come only these two fingers aren’t pulling apart? Whatever I do to make them move, they won’t budge, or change positions. It’s like they’re glued together.”
Yamada smiled, only slightly wider now, “That’s you and me, Chii.”
Chinen’s heart beat rose while a tingle ran up his spine, “…Eh…?”
“Your ring fingers represent you and your true love. Just like your ring fingers, and just like you said: We are the only two people who can’t pull apart. Whatever we both do, our place in each other’s hearts won’t budge, and our feelings won’t change. We’ll always be glued together.
So no matter what happens, even if we’re far away from each other, we will never be apart, but we will always be in each others hearts.”
Chinen was speechless. “…That’s… That’s amazing. Sugoi yo, Yama-chan,” he said as he pulled Yamada into a tight embrace. Tears fell again, only now less painful, feeling warm and comforted as Yamada gently wrapped his arms around him.
Yamada giggle into the cuddle, “Are you convinced now, my little gyoza lover?”
“Un… I am.” Chinen smiled.
“You’re such a small-minded chibi dakara~”
“Hey..! Don’t you use ‘small’ two times when you’re talking about me, in the same sentence..! Mou…” The younger one pouted then blew into Yamada’s ear, tickling him in revenge.
“Uwah! Chii! Stop it!!” Yamada protested, and pulled the laughing Chinen away from their embrace.
“Noooo~ Don’t pull me away! I’ll stop now oka-“
Chinen was silenced by Yamada’s soft lips against his. And the younger one could just sense the cheeky smirk his lover was making as they kissed, sweetly.
But both knew that these cherished moments were their last for the coming years…
-
“I love you, Yuri.” Yamada embraced Chinen tightly, and kissed his lips, nose, and forehead one last time…
“I want to see you smile before I go…”
With all his might, and the strength left in him, Chinen smiled widely for Yamada. “I love you too, Ryosuke.”
Yamada was able to smile then too. Gaining some confidence from his lover, he could then, say, “Goodbye, Chii. I promise… It won’t be so long…”
Chinen watched as Yamada walked through the door, and then closing it as he stepped out. He was sadder than ever, devastated, and he immediately felt incomplete, but… he believed in Yamada’s words, and he knew that he will keep them.
This didn’t break the two, but instead made their relationship stronger, their trust in each other deeper, and their love for one another was certainly undyingly unbreakable.
