Your Music
Chapter Thirteen: Café Au Lait

“Ari-chyaaan~!!”
“NO! ...I won't let you hug me until you stop teasing me and calling me your 'Chibi-penguin'!”
“Guys! Shh.. Even though we're quite a few distance away from him, Yuto can still hear you and he'll wake up!”
“Ne~ Ko-chaaan~ Hurry up with cooking breakfast~”

Yuto came to his senses, still feeling a bit sleepy and slightly disorientated. He opened his eyes, blinked a few times and rubbed against his eyelashes. In one motion, he sat up, noticing he had been sleeping on a couch.

“Hai, hai. Y'know.. the food will be done quicker if a certain someone would stop reading and help.. me.. OUT!”
“Hey!! Don't just snatch it away from me!! And FYI I'm reading for good causes.”
“More like using magazines where Keito's been featured as your research material on finding out what he likes and stuff.”
“...Hmm? Did someone call me?”
“U-Uhh, no, no! Just carry on setting up the table. ...What the hell did you do that for, Yabu?!”
“Ahh, come on~ he's gonna know sometime soon anywa--”
“Would you guys just stop it--”
“Ko-chan! It's burning!!”
“..Ah! YABE!!”

Are? The voices finally registered in Yuto's mind, They're in the kitchen... He got up and let his feet lead him into the next room. As he got closer, the smell of smoke reached his nose...
“OH MY GOD! Are you guys okay?!” Yuto entered the kitchen, the sight of a fire extinguisher's ash being sprayed onto a pan by Yabu. Kei, Hikaru, Daiki, Takaki and Keito just a few steps back, surrounding the steam. “What the hell happened in here?!”
Once Yabu was sure that a fire won't start, he stopped pressing down on the fire extinguisher's lever and turned around, finding Yuto's shocked expression. “Oh, uhh.. Gomen, we woke you...”
“Never mind that...! Are you guys okay?!” Yuto came nearer, looking closely for injuries or damaged things.
No one seemed to be hurt and everything except the frying pan were still in good condition, “Ah, don't worry. We're fine.”
Everyone loosened up, as Yuto felt relieved, “That's good then.”
“Ahh~ah, my omurice...” Kei whined.
“Sorry, I'll make another one now!” Yabu said as he quickly cleared up the mess he made.
“Hmm... Just make sure you pay attention this time.”
“Hey, don't you start again, Hikaru. It was your fault for not helping in the first place!”
“Stop shouting at me!” Hikaru pouted, “I'll just help you now, okay?” He turned his head down before saying in a low voice, “Stop being such a baby.”
“What was that?”
“Nothing...! C'mon, everyone's waiting! We gotta cook!”
“Fine. Can you shop these for me, please?”
While Yabu and Hikaru began to cook again, Keito approached Yuto.
Once Yuto noticed, he smiled, “Ohayou, Keito-kun!”
“Uhn... Ohayou,” The older one looked quite unsure about something. He hesitated at first, but in the end he asked anyway, “Hey, Yuto-kun? Did something happen? I mean... You slept in the living room last night...”
In just a quick flash, Yuto's happy mood vanished as he was reminded of the event that happened the night before. With Keito asking him that question, he remembered exactly what happened. I saw Ryutaro and Chii hugging, while I was with Shintaro. Then Chii went to my room, told me about his issue with Yuma, and I comforted him. I hugged him and Ryutaro saw that. He got angry at me for hugging Chii. I got angry with him too - the very first time I actually got mad at him, the very first time I acted like that to him. We argued, and it resulted in me walking out the room, stating that I'll be sleeping in the living room, and ran down the stairs, leaving him. Oh and yeah, I remember. It was the first time I ever let Ryutaro see my tears.
“Yuto-kun...? Hey. Hellooo~!!” Yuto snapped out of his thoughts as his eyes finally told him that Keito's hand was waving right at his face. “You don't have to answer me, I was just curious. And I think breakfast might be ready soon.”
Yuto blinked, trying to get his focus back, “Oh, yeah. About that...” He began to head for the door, “I'm not eating here this morning. I'll just change and go out. I don't know for how long, but I'll see you guys later.”
Yuto left the guys with confused expressions, wondering why he wants to go out so early and why he acted strangely. “Keito, did he say anything else to you?” Takaki asked.
“No, nothing actually.”
The six of them still questioned Yuto's weird actions, even as they ate and after.

*

It didn't take long before he was standing in front of the Café's entrance door, heaving a deep breath and letting it go, before stepping in, “Irashaimasse~” Yuto smiled as he was welcomed.
“Oh! Nakajima-san?”
Eh? Did I just hear someone call 'Nakajima-san'? Yuto suddenly became cautious, Yabe. There might be fans here...
Yuto jumped as he felt a hard tap on his shoulder, “It is you!” Turning around, a familiar face of a girl was revealed.
“Y...Yamashita..-san?” Yuto tried, still worried if a crowd was going to form around him again, of course causing suffocation which he always doesn't want to show.
“Who else would it be, silly?” The girl smiled, “So, I see that you love our Café so much ne?”
“Oh, uhm... Yeah,” Yuto replied, getting his head straight as he sat down on a table, “Of course!”
“Hmm~ That's good then!” Eri's smile grew. She took out her pen and placed it on to her ordering paper, “So, just coffee?”
“Uhm... actually, no. I think I'll have hot chocolate, today. I haven't tried it either... Oh! With cream too please!”
He saw Eri move the pen on the paper, “Hmm, okay! Got it!” Then she ripped it off the pad, and suddenly gave it to another waitress, “One Hot Choco with cream please~”
Yuto blinked as the girl sat down in front of him, “...Are? Huh? Wait... I thought you... Weren't you just..?”
Eri leaned her two elbows on the table, her face displaying a grin, “My break yo~ Come to think of it, nice timing!” She thrust her right arm up in the air, her hand forming a thumbs up.
“Ahh... I see.” At least, for just a short time, Yuto was able to smile and giggle a bit. The girl's actions made him feel at ease somehow.
“So, what's up?” Eri didn't think twice whether to ask the question or not, she just went right out and said it.
“Eh? Oh uhm.. nothing much really.”
“You say 'really' but... really? Is it really 'nothing much'?”
...Are? Why does it seem like she knows that something's happened? “Why are you assuming that it's not really 'nothing much'?”
“Well... I remember, when we met here last time, you told me you come to this Café to clear your mind, right? So... I just thought that that might be the case aswell today...” She trailed off, looking at Yuto's unreadable expression, “But... I guess I'm wrong?”
It took a while for the other one to respond, “N...No. You are right. It's just that... I guess I was kinda surprised you'd be so sure...”
Eri took her folded arms off the edge of the table, moving backwards till her back reached the frame of the chair, “Well, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I'm just saying that I'm here to listen.” And yet again, that smile of hers appeared on her face.
“Well, it's not that I don't want too..? It's just that... uhm...” A handful of images flashed into Yuto's mind, making him confused and dizzy again as he remembered last night's incident. He frowned without noticing, “It's a long story.”
“I've got time.” Despite hearing a hint of anger in the boy's tone also, Eri couldn't hesitate but go further. She didn't know why but, somehow, she had the urge of wanting to know what's bothering Yuto. “Well, fifteen minutes at least. 'Cause by then my break would be over.” She giggled, trying to make the atmosphere lighter.
Yuto smiled again. Just like last time... She's making me smile, cheering me up even if it's only just for a while...
Several seconds ticked by when at last, his decision was made, “Well... It's about last night. Something unexpected... I did something that I seriously regretted, right after I did it...”
Looking at the girl's expression, he didn't know whether to carry on or not. What is she thinking right now? Would it be okay to tell her?
“And...? What was the thing that you did?”
“I, uhm... Well, you see, there's this person I like...”
“Uhuh. Carry on...”
“I've liked this person since, since... I can't remember when 'cause it must've been such a long time ago... But this person doesn't know about my feelings, and anyway this person's in love with my best friend...” I can't believe I'm actually telling her all of this... And I've never told anyone...
Hmm, is it me or does he keep saying 'this person' a lot? Ah, it doesn't matter..! Just focus, Eri, focus! He seems uncomfortable talking about this... And it must be hard telling someone of the opposite gender about this type of personal issue... Maybe it'll be better if we skip to the point, “Ahh... I see... So... about last night?”
“Oh, uhm yeah. Well... This person got angry at me... But unlike what normally happens, I got angry with him too...” Without realizing it, Yuto began to forget he was talking out loud, “I mean... I'm always the one doing the understanding... I know that we won't be more than friends but... I still hoped, you know?? I'm always here for him... I've always been beside him even when he doesn't need me... And yet, he still acts like that towards me. I mean... Of course I don't expect anything in return, but it's like he doesn't care at all about me. It's like I'm just this person who he just happens to have to be around with. The way he acts... It feels like I'm nothing to him... And last night, on top of it all, he got really angry at me for comforting my best friend, saying that I was 'unfair', like he was saying that I betrayed him for doing that to the one he loves... So, of course I got angry with him...! I mean... I told him that since he's my best friend too, I care for him too, and not just him! I literally blew, so angry, fuming, I was like that, non-stop, and before I knew it everything... Everything was... It ended with me running out of the room, not once looking back at him...”
There was complete silence between the two. Since Yuto started to speak about the incident, he blanked out from everything else - he just became so focused, unable to stop talking.
After a long while, he realized what he's just said out loud, and soon became troubled of how he was going to face the girl again. Yuto didn't know how she would react to his whole story, which seemed so pathetic and dramatic to him...
The girl still hasn't said a word, and Yuto was becoming more uneasy as the time passed by. I knew I shouldn't have continued telling her...
He shook his head and thought that this wasn't the time to keep regretting. So that the atmosphere won't be so awkward anymore, Yuto slowly began to look forward...
...The moment he faced Eri, an unexpected feeling bubbled inside him and in a split second, he burst out laughing. “Wh-Why... Are you... Making s-such a... Fu-hunny face??” Yuto tried between his teary giggling.
“Hehe~” Eri replaced her 'funny face' expression with her normal happy smile, “Yey! I'm happy. You finally laughed.”
Yuto was wiping the tear from the side of his eye, when he stopped still, shocked at what the girl said, “E...Eh?” Could it be that she wanted me to laugh since I got here? Because she sensed that I wasn't in a good mood... Yuto heard his heart thump against his chest.
“Hmm, I don't really know what to do in these types of situations, but I thought making you laugh would be the way to go,” Eri explained, still wearing that happy smile of hers, “And plus, I've always wanted to make that silly face.” She began to laugh, and soon Yuto joined her again.
“Ah~ahh, you're so funny.” Yuto said, wiping the side of his eyes again as he couldn't help his tears forming, from laughing too much.
“Ooh! Am I?” Eri made the face again. Seeing how much it made the other one laugh, she didn't care how many times she had to do it.
A few more minutes of the other customer's stares at them, wondering what was so funny that they needed to laugh so loud, before the two began to quiet down. Their laughs turning into giggles, then their giggles into grins.
“...Cheer up, ne?” Eri said.
Yuto looked at her, smiling as he saw her doing the same, “Uhn.”
“Hmm, if my super funny face isn't enough, then take your time and enjoy drinking your Hot Choco with creaaam~!!” Eri stood up then gestured her hand towards the hot chocolate that Yuto ordered, being placed onto the table. “Oh! Nice timing!” Another thumbs up, then she high-fived the waitress.
Yuto somehow found this act of hers, funny again, so he giggled once more.
He said thanks to the waitress, then noticed Eri walk away, “Wait, where're you going?”
The girl looked back and grinned cheekily, “To the toilet. Wanna come with?”
Yuto blinked, “...Hai?”
Eri stuck her tongue out, “I'm joking, Bakajima-san~” Then she turned back 'round and carried on walking.
B...BAKAjima?? If that was another person, maybe even if It was Chinen, Yuto would get angry, but this time, he didn't seem to mind it. Instead he laughed again.
Taking his first sip of the Café's Hot Choco, he gazed out of the window, “Hmm, this tastes nice.”

*

“Urgh, it's so cold!” Ryutaro kept walking, trying to find his way to his dad's Café, the thing his cousin wanted him to bring there to her, grasped in his right hand in a plastic bag, “She just had to have me do this, didn't she?”
As Ryutaro grumbled and complained, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He quickly took it out and read out the message:

12:17pm
From: Eri
Yo, Ryutaro! I hope you're on your way here with my fish! Better not be late. Bring it to the back of the Café, ne? I'll be there in a few minutes, but if I'm not, just leave it on the door step. Oh! But uhm, make sure that you go back to the entrance when you leave. Jaa ne~

Ryutaro flipped his phone shut and returned it to his pocket. “Urgh. That annoying, weird, bossy cousin,” he said aloud. “I mean, why a fish? And why does she want me to go to the entrance before leaving?” Ryutaro shook his head and just carried on walking.

*

“So, how's your first taste of our Hot Choco?” Eri came back after a while, sitting down again as she asked Yuto the question.
“Oh, uhm, it's nice. I like it,” the boy smiled.
“Hmm~ Glad you do!” Eri replied, “So, my break's kinda over now... and I have to go or else my uncle's gonna take my fish away from me again.” A pout was definitely visible on her lips as she spoke the last words.
Yuto giggled, remembering last time, when a fish was also involved. Eri, Eri's uncle, a customer, and a fish.
“So... Sorry that we couldn't talk so much, but I hope you feel at least a teeny bit better!” She tood up, waving before she turned around, but just before she could walk away any further, Yuto called out to her.
“Wait!” Eri looked back and saw Yuto smile, “Thanks for today. I don't know how but whenever I talk to you, I become all happy again.”
Eri smiled back, her expression looking much more kinder, “Don't worry about it. I told you that I'm here to listen. Come back again ne?”
“Uhn.” Yuto answered.
With that, the girl walked away, and the other one stood up also. He left the payment on the table, along with the tip, then made his way to the door.
Yuto sighed, feeling like that heavy load was lifted off his chest. He took a deep breath, inhaling the fair aroma of the fresh coffee beans, the scent making him feel calmer, before letting it go again. Everytime I come to this Café... I always feel happier when I come out.
Just as he opened the entrance's door, his eyes caught sight of a magazine that one of the customer's was reading. Yuto kept looking, intrigued that the front cover was of Hey!Say!JUMP. Even as he walked out, his eyes were still glued to the magazine. He unconsciously began to walk forward. Not being able to see where he was going, he suddenly felt a hard bump on his shoulder.
“Sor-” Yuto was entirely shocked to see who he had walked into, “...Ryutaro...”
“...Yuto...”
