Me: Good afternoon, [company name]
Man on the phone: Hi, is your mommy home?
Me: (voice is deeper, with an astonished sound) What?!
Man on the phone: Oh. Sorry. (uncomfortable pause) Is this the ---- residence?
Me: (slightly annoyed) No. This is [company name]
Man on the phone: Oh. Sorry. [click]
Why is it that when people call they never bother to hear the greeting? If they would, at least 25% of the calls that come through would know they dialed either the wrong number or at the very least, not a residence.
