Looooong Weekend Update

Hey folks. How was your (long) weekend?

I managed to haul myself back onto the exercise bandwagon. Did some weights on Saturday, then woke up Sunday with a back ache and fairly sore overall. Did some stretching and a bit of yoga and was feeling much better. Monday I went for a run. It felt good! I do like running... just wish the a/c was put in so it wasn't so darn hot.

Also managed to start up on my Latin again! My companion book to Wheelock's had come in way back in March, but I've been procrastinating. No more! I started back at the start (not that hard, as I'd only made it to Chapter 3). And the new book really does help (plus I quite like the author's sense of humor).

I had the apartment to myself on Saturday night, so I acquired a bottle of Pinot Grigio (I'm totally into the sweeter white wines lately - strange), and watched the extended edition of Gladiator and finished reading "Caesar's Women". For some reason, it's nigh impossible to find the next book in the series that isn't the shortened edition or in the massive huge format. I may wait a bit to get it, though, because I don't want to finish the series too soon.

And my Matt & Nat gift package arrived! It actually arrived last Friday, but everyone left work early and it was left at another office on our floor (good thing I didn't stop by on the weekend, then, to see if it had come in). What was in the package? A t-shirt, a no-fur button, a copy of Earthlings, and... a Samsara Hudson bag! OMG. It retails at $155, and never in my life would I spend so much on a bag, so I'm thrilled. It's plum coloured and so grown-up. I love it.

Ah, I also wanted to talk about some raw food. Is anyone here raw? Yesterday I made my first green smoothie (as opposed to just juice). Wow - it was tasty. I call this one Bog Water, after Ed's naming of it:

2 medium empire apples
1/2 frozen banana
4 strawberries
bunch of Swiss Chard

Today I've made myself one for lunch:

1 medium empire apple
1/2 frozen banana
4 strawberries
bunch of Swiss Chard
small bunch of Romaine
1 carrot

I'm considering getting a small, second-hand dehydrator. There are some amazing looking breads, crackers, and wraps that I'd love to try. And I think it might help with my craving cooked foods (I made it into the afternoon yesterday on all raw: canteloupe for breakfast, green smoothie for lunch, some nuts for a snack.... then I caved and had popcorn =( Dinner was large raw salad... and then I had oatmeal and left over red lentil soup in the evening). It's not that I'm shunning cooked foods, I just know eating more raw is much better for you (as long as most of your diet does not consist of nuts!).

Sprouting is another thing I'd like to try. It's just... I'm not an overly patient person. But I have some chickpeas at home which I think I'll give it a go with. We'll see!
