I have this favorite thinking topic that I play with whenever I want to muse over linguistics or my life. disparate topics, usually, but in this little game they work together.

I like to think, "if I found a genie, and I got one (or three) wish, what would I ask for such that even if it was an evil or stingy genie, I would still get what I want?"

With three wishes, you can really waste one or two on something frivolous or use them to make sure your main wish is carried out properly, but it's tough with just the one. It tends to devolve into a bunch of adjectives and conjunctions and it's just no fun if you make out a one sentence paragraph with bureaucratic instructions.

Sometimes I just go with the cheap "I wish for a billion dollars" or, more modestly, "I wish for 100 million dollars." I don't want to get it in some freakish accident or Irish mob deal, so I'll add "in a costless and completely un-suspicious way." I think that's pretty sound.

Today I thought of "I wish I could have, recognize, and follow through on ideas to make my life better or reach my goals." It's mostly the follow through that I have problems on. Something I need is broken and I think, "hey, I could fix that in five minutes and then I could use it." But I get distracted and wander off and the next time I see it I again think, "really, it would only take a few minutes..."
