Prejudice in skin color is racism but there is a whole larger world of prejudice than skin color. What was interesting was having a science major and taking fine arts classes I was discriminated against. When I switched to an art major, scientific people were discriminated against. Now that I think about it, it's strange how some people dislike science or dislike the thought processes of science. Seems, I dunno, kinda conservative. And hypocritical if they consider themselves liberal or open to new ideas.
peoplhi recently got into an argument with someone and that person pretty much spewed a bunch of BS with pretty words and esoteric name dropping. What annoys me more than anything is the idea that science and art are mutually exclusive. Not only mutually exclusive but the idea that they are somehow destructive to one another. There's an assumption that if someone is scientific or logical, they are not artistic and vice versa. This way of thinking is something prevalent in America but less so in other countries. I don't know enough about Canada to have an opinion but the other person in that argument was Canadian.
I know a few doctors in the family who enjoy reading, playing musical instruments, philosophy and expressing themselves through the arts. My father may be a businessman now, but he was very artistic and musical when he was younger. Imagine a tramp who plays the guitar for the ladies. And his favorite book is Anna Karenina.
Making wrong assumptions like the mutual exclusivity of art and science does no one any good. To have a society that believes this is poisonous. And if I wanted to name drop, I could recall Leonardo da Vinci who was interested in basically everything.
The thing is, name dropping solely for the sake of name dropping for some sense of credibility just means everyone is up for grabs. If you can name someone that doesn't mean it's proof that your argument is right because I can just name someone for my argument. Giving examples are good but they are support, not a point for the case itself. Even worse if it's done to manipulate and some might say that that would be a violation of ethics and a wrongful use of ethos.
Stalemate by Cousin Shelley
Pairing: Erik/Xavier
Prompt: Charles/Erik. Between X1 and X2: Eric waiting patiently for each of Charles's visits, Charles patiently and stubbornly working his way through the red tape every time to go see him. Bonus points for intimate flashbacks (I imagine it would be rather difficult to have sex in the cell! :P) but it can be as explicit or as 'they're devoted heterosexual life partners' as you like :)
Comments: Stalemate is full of wonderful details. It's a simple story enough but what it has is richness in thoughts and emotions mixed with memories that it's an adventure on its own.
