The doctor advised me to just rest my foot and it will be alright. But apparently HeeChul thinks otherwise.
“From today on until your foot would recover, I, Kim HeeChul will be your walking assistant.” He suddenly proclaimed after he escorted us back to our room.
I was not even able to reply, he left just as suddenly.
“How weird that person is.” I thought out loud. My friends just laughed.
True to his words, the next day, he was knocking at our door volunteering to assist me to the dining room for breakfast.
My so-called friends might as well push me out the door, with the way they enthusiastically agreed to the idea and they actually did.
“You really don’t have to do this anymore.” I repeated once again after we ate. “I can still walk, you know.” I continued.
“Really it’s no bother;” he assured me, “think of it as a way of thanking you.” He said further.
“You’ve done more than enough for me and you don’t have to feel bad about this.” I pressed on, referring to my now bandaged-up foot.
He just smiled again. “That smile again” I said to myself. I felt like I lost my point in the subject.
“Trust me, it’s not guilt.” He finally said. “Why can’t you just accept the help I’m offering?” he retorted.
“Because it makes me feel so pathetic, being cared for so much, like this.” I retorted back.
“Is that really it? Or is because it is being done by a stranger like me?” He stated rather than asked.
“That too.” I admitted. I must say, I’m not very comfortable being alone with guys, especially good-looking guys like him and this assisting stuff, comes with physical contact.
“That can be solved easily. We’ll spend this day together and get to know each other better along the way. Then we’re not going to be strangers anymore.” He said matter-of-factly dismissing my protests.
“Eotteokhae? (What to do?)” I sighed, it feels like his not giving up easily and his objective seemed to have changed. “Or has it always been this way?” I thought to myself.
“Come on, we are on tour, right?” he said as we started on his so-called getting-to-know-each-other day.
“I thought the doctor specifically said to rest my foot.” I started to protest yet again.
“You are resting your foot, that’s what I’m here for. All the while, continuing your sightseeing.” He says it like it’s no problem at all. “Or would you rather stay cooped up in your room all alone?” he added. I convinced my friends to go on with the tour without me, I would just become a burden if go with them or so I thought. Now, I wonder, if that was a wise decision.
“Well…” I started, I did look forward to this vacation for along time and I also don’t want to be cooped up all alone in the room. “
“Fine.” I finally said. “There’s nothing wrong with going with a hot guy like him in a fine weather like this while touring Japan, Right? I mean, he’s can’t be one of those scammers who would take advantage of an injured girl all alone in a strange country and… Why am I such a paranoid person?” I interrupted my own train of thoughts.
It was a wise decision after all. My paranoia did not come true. I enjoyed my day, going to different new places. He also told me additional information and stories about the places we went to, and then had lunch at a small café that served delicious pasta.
I just learned that he has been here before. And just like he said about getting to know each other, I really did get to know him better.
I learned that he’s from Korea; he is five years older than I am and that he has an elder sister and a younger one. He also helps his father in running their hotel business…so on. He even told me his blood type, AB, which he seemed especially proud of. That annoyed me a little.
I finally convinced him to at least have dinner with his family, considering, he already spent the whole day with me. I went to find my friends but found only Byul and Misaki. They reported that Chie’s been missing since that afternoon. We told the staff and asked them to tell us any news about Chie. Byul reassured us that Chie should be doing well by herself. I can’t help being worried, it’s a distant country after all.
Shortly after, while we were preparing for bed, Heechul fetched me again saying, he wanted to show me something. My face must be so red from the look my friends gave me that he asked if I’m feeling alright. I assured him.
He took me to what seems to be a function hall in the hotel. There was a stack of chairs and tables at the sides and in the middle was a white grand piano.
“It’s rarely used now.” He said as if in response to my amazement as walked in. He led me to sit beside him while he played a melody.
“You mentioned before that you like the piano. How do you like this?” He said while he played another song. He remembered.
“It’s wonderful! I didn’t know there was even a place like this in here.” I answered. “You play well, where did you learn how to play like that?” I asked.
“School. I took lessons.” He said as he continued to play. It was Elgar’s famous “Salut d’amour”.
I closed my eyes as I listened. It sounds wonderful as it echoed through the room. It was romantic. I remembered the pact I made when I was in my first year that I wouldn’t fall in love until I’ve graduated and asked the heavens to only meet my soulmate by then. “Is he THE one?” I wondered.
When I opened my eyes, our eyes met as I caught him looking at me then suddenly we heard the door closed. We both turned towards it, I was sure we left it open when we entered.
“Maybe, just the wind.” He assured me.
“Yeah maybe,” I agreed as I look at my watch.”It’s getting late; my friends are waiting for me.” I said.
“Come, I’ll take you back.” He stood up and offered his hand.
“Kyo wa arigatou (thanks for today). Oyasumi (goodnight).” I said as I entered my room.
He smiled, “Dou itashimashite (you’re welcome). Oyasumi.” He replied then turned to leave.

Chie turned up in bed next to us the next morning. She didn’t seem to want us to pry so as long as she came back safely, we didn’t pursue the interrogation. That same day we got to meet Misaki’s own knight and like how Byul and Chie was with leaving me with Heechul who also turned up that day together with Misaki’s Kyuh, Byul and Chie happily left Misaki with him.
I can’t wait when Misaki and I could do that to the both of them.
