Today Reuters reports:
Bush said that it was vital to change the law to protect intelligence professionals who are called on to question detainees to obtain vital information. "They don't want to be tried as war criminals. ... They expect our government to give them clarity about what is right and what is wrong."
If you think that what you are doing might get you tried as a war criminal, then chances are virtually 100% that it is wrong.
Bush (El Stupido) also said:
"It's unacceptable to think there's any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children to achieve an objective," said Bush, growing animated as he spoke.
There are a lot of innocent women and children turning over in their graves at this one. I'm surprised a bloody hand didn't shoot out of the earth and grab him by the throat when he uttered this whopper. Let's see... they kill innocent women and children in pursuit of their objectives ... we kill innocent women and children in pursuit of our objectives. Both are wrong. Seems like a pretty valid comparison to me.
Is there no way to get rid of these guys? These really aren't "our" objectives. They are the objectives of Bush, the neo-cons, and the fundamentalist right. They are about 15% of the population. Then there are the 40% who have been taken in by the lies. But to say that these are "our objectives" seems a bit of a stretch. They're his objectives. And Bush should worry about war crimes too.
Never has a President been so close to objectively being subject to trial as a war criminal. Sure people talked about it with LBJ or Nixon, but it probably would have been tough sledding to make a case. Bush is a slam dunk.
