morning and the tide is low

Since alice had been unable to display /Network since I wiped and pushed Tiger onto it, I spent a bit of time yesterday morning blowing away preference files until I found the right source of woe. The theory is that a file gets a little corrupted and served configd.mDNSresponder a bad host name, after that point the Bonjour service discovery stuff acts a bit mashed. Turns out it was ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist.

Ran into kithal at lunch, who's handing out a selection of free songs from the iTMS. The Apple booth he was on at this year's Orientation Week just went to remind me that it's Orientation Week already. There's no getting away from it: holidays are over and the students are back. Soon this whirlpool of academic lunacy will convolve itself into a veritable helix of educational efficiency, without the 'efficiency' bit.

sigh

Some things never last.

In the mean time, there's tea and banana and antacid and bun for breakfast. Here are some leftover jaffas too. At least I think they are.
