Kids and Toys nowdays

So my roommate got us cable...
It's awesome right?
And i have an on-line job that allows me to watch TV while sitting at home and clicking on buttons... great right?..
As a result I have watched way too much TV and way too many commercials

So here comes the issue: Am I really the only one that sees a problem with companies creating toys for kids that are too little to have the motor skills necessary to operate a computer mouse... Yea.. toys that hook up to the computer and will talk to your child so you don't have to. They will praise the kid, sing songs, teach him or her to read and write... do everything to make sure that the child is stuck to the screen, gets no exercise and starts straining his or her eyes as soon as possible.

What about the parents? Do they really go for these things? Do they honestly think it's a good idea to get the child hooked on computers that early? I mean as is our civilazation is centered around computers so sooner or later the child will end up spending days on end staring at the screen the way I do day in day out...
What about human contact?
What about parental approval and praise...
What about learning how to communicate with real people versus knowing what button to push?
Spending time with your kids?

Are we as civilization really too busy for our own kids?
Are we really reduced to giving up their education and entertainment to machines with bright colors and smiley faces?!!!

On a separate note I saw an ad for a totally brilliant toy.
A digital camera that is simple enough to use to give to a little kid. It's bright, easy to hold in little hands and shock proof enough to be dropped over and over again.
I'd love my kid, whenever i end up having kids to have one.
Just think! Being able to see the world though your child's eyes... realizing what they think is interesting and worthy enough of taking a picture of. Getting a glimpse of what is going on in his or her little head...

That's a truly brilliant idea!...
