This would make a wonderful character.
Now, gnolls + ants, anyone?
And on that note, some thoughts about magic sources. I wanted to get these written down, so here we go:
o Candle-magic or cord-magic. The idea of using time or a transient, burning space.
o Dream-magic. Not so much magic that takes place in a dream, but magic that comes from other-space, an otherworldly 'place' that lies over the subconcious. Or, that 'stuff' that has to be pulled from such an area. Perhaps it's the art of forcing ideas of the subconcious to the concious and flowing them from one place to the next.
o Rune magic. Written magic of any sort. Special fondness for the runes on skin. Scribed into the ground is fun, but overused. What about an altar, whose marks are changed depending on what 'letter' is being sent to the god?
o Soul or self. Exactly what it says. Monk ki could fall into this.
o Psi-drain. From others or other objects.
o Ritual or dance. A favorite--the tension and buildup of magic through music. Very old, established inside of cultures. There's alot to be gained from real-world reading, here.
