today's events

not very exciting events, but events just the same. woke up around 1. got up and got ready. i tried to eat lunch, but i just wasn't hungry so i didn't eat much. i did research for my mom a bit.

Dear Z, Jr:

I thought of you this evening because you are so much more adept at internet
research than I. I am thinking of a new program on law and reproduction. I
imagine a 1/2 program with lawyers on custody, child support and property
division, maybe adoption too, and scientists and clergy. Eileen gave me that name
of someone she knows, Fr. James McCartney, a professor of everything at
Villanova (two birds with one stone, extra points for the cliche) and I was just
looking at Google for more ideas. All the sites on reproductive rights seem to
be about or by women who don't want Roe v. Wade to be overturned. I would like
to see Rove preserved, but I am more interested in what we will all do when
the children from egg and sperm donors with all sorts of parents hit the courts,
in divorce, separation and death. Cool, huh? Any ideas?. Everyone has done
programs about DOMA and Massachusetts and screaming and hollering about
legislative changes, but I don't see much about progressive thinking and planning.
I went to a family law section meeting last week where everyone was having a
bird because some Christian rights woman showed up and gave a speech about why
a family consists and a man and woman only. This was one person in a group of
about 50 and she was roundly voted down. I thought she was rather
courageous, but misguided. Any thoughts or internet research tips? Like how to refine
a search?

In less academic news, I went to a party last night. Almost everyone was 20
years younger than me, so I spent alot of time talking with the grill guy.
Excellent hamburger. Today I went to see The Lake House, very good cry and very
romantic. Then I went to Sears and bought a new vacuum cleaner. What a
Saturday night fun-fest! It is actually a very good vacuum cleaner, recommeded by
G's cleaning lady. And not expensive. Tomorrow I will go and spend Father's
Day with G and M. I gave him exactly what he wanted. Old man golf shirts
with pockets on the chest so he can put stuff in the chest pocket. Maybe not a
good image to take to bed.

My friend Judy has come through her spinal fusion very well. I brought her
home from the hospital this week and she was very brave. She had problems
lifting her right arm, but I spoke with her tonight (while buying the vacuum
cleaner), and she reports that each day is getting better.

So, what's up in your world? Love, Z, Sr.

wow, that's my mom. sometimes she's just so amusing you have to sit back and laugh. so i finished at work. watched tv at work. came home, went for a bike ride, almost got killed several times. note to self: you can never have too many reflective strips or too many blinking, flashing, or otherwise noticeable lights while riding a bike at night. i thought a front light, a back flashing tail light, and reflective material on my water pack would be enough, but that's clearly not the case.

thank god my brakes work. a pick-up truck was driving at me and it was way too close for comfort. i thought he was going to go around me, but he didn't budge. i had to drive off the road and slam on the brakes. the back wheel fish-tailed. note to self: be glad you always wear a helmet. also, suck it up and invest in a reflective riding/running vest. you'll be greatful in 20 years when you're still alive.

i came back to the house glad that i still had all four limbs and i could walk, but feeling amazing the way you feel after a great workout. i made myself scrambled eggs and half a bagel for dinner with iced tea to drink. i had such a craving after biking. i watched tv with my housemates (kristin and angela).

the third one is never around and is completely anti-social. i finally got off my ass and took a shower and took out the trash to be collected tomorrow. and now i'm exhausted, but i haven't even really relaxed tonight. i really just want to start a movie, but i have training 11-4 and work 4-8 tomorrow. i might just fuck myself over anyway and go for it. we'll see.
