I started tonight by listening to a song a friend was talking to me about while I was at the store. Just picking up on what she had been saying about it(Shiny Toy Guns-Starts with one) There was also something about it that vibrated just right for me. I grabbed a set of headphones and cranked up some Snow Patrol and then the new Yellowcard. I needed to hear a female voice in this submersion so I tried some Heart and the a real old one from Smith(Baby Its You),angst started to play a part in the vibe, and its early so I need to step back from the ledge a bit,Something Corporate, I Woke Up in a Car. For that last one I had dropped the head set and switched to the surround sound, and now it was in the air all around me. I leaned back and let the ipod take me where it wanted to go-Goo Goo Dolls, Paramore, Gin Blossoms, The Used,Three Days Grace, Antigone Rising. Then Queens of the Stone Age came on and I turned it up. Celebrity Skin, Sweetness, Hazy Shade of Winter, Drift & Die, and I kept tapping the volume button ,the air really was vibrating. Ipods are not to be trusted, and mine probably more so then others, because its owner is a bit shambolic,so this one went pop on me. Just Around the Corner, Raise Your Glass,Good Life, Fireworks, somewhere in there(it might have been right around the beginning of that run) I got up and started doing my dyslexic version of dancing. To be fair its just closer to moving in time with the music. Just before a heart attack came and took me from my rapture on came the Foo Fighters, and decided The Best of Me should lie on my back and feel if the floor had picked up on the vibe. I could just barely feel it so I hit the volume again, and the windows rattled, and there it was, the floor was with me... with us. Buckcherry, Muse, The Cranberries, Incubus, and I knew it was time to get up to my knees and use the remote for what it was meant to me used for. Jan Arden came on and as loud as was possible I started right in with her...."I have never seen this kind of love..."
It was one of those moments, probably of pure insanity, but it felt like revelation. Lyric for lyric, just going there with her. Eyes closed,on my knees "yea yea yea yea yea", an emotional catharsis, total involvement, when....... someone tapped me on my shoulder.....
Alyce was home from going out to dinner with her friends.
"You know you make the neighbors crazy when you do this!"
...but honey I have to give my fans their moneys worth
I then got the smile that I am kind of used to seeing. The one that goes with a slight shake of the head, and she went out to walk the dog.
Jan switched to REO and I thought for a moment about keeping on,but I was back,so just after midnight The world stopped moving to my beat and went on as it always does.
