Warning comic books and geekiness

I dont usually do this. Most people know that comics are my business. So I try not to bore everyone with a whats new type of thing, but every once in a while something really good comes along and I cant help myself from giving a heads-up to anyone who might end up here.
I am lazy when it comes to reading my weeklies. I often have a pile of books that goes back half a year. I then sit down for a week or two and just try to average ten books a day, until I am caught up. I am in that reading frenzy now.
Since I am fairly certain I havent commented on any of my favorites in over a year, I'll throw in a few of my current "must reads",just to start things off. If your a Buffy fan and your not reading the new book your really missing out. Whedon is writing this series like it is the eighth year of the show, and several story lines have been every bit as good as the first three years on TV. A great independent is Fallen Angel, and epic battle of good versus evil, just a really well written and interestingly drawn comic book. I am also loving Jonah Hex. This is kind of a western/horror comic. Again extremely well written and drawn, this is a very Eastwood kind of character, with complete stories in every issue. Very rarely do you get a continued next month issue, Which can get to be annoying when the story really gets interesting :). I always enjoy Birds of Prey, and JSA from DC. Dr Who,based on the new series isnt bad either. There are two Steven King titles out now,as both Dark Tower and The Stand have found their way into comics. All the above can be found in single books and trade paperbacks too, that collect complete stories. The trades leave you with longer waits in between, but there is none of that continued stuff if you read them that way.
Now for the reason I decided to write about comics today! I just finished the six issues series The Huntress Year One. DC comics has done a few of these "Year One.." books, and for the most part they are half hearted and half assed retellings of over used material. This book however, even tho the material is familiar to fans, has added some real depth to one of "the Batman families" most interesting characters. The Huntress is the last remaining member of a mafia family. Left alive when her family was murdered at their dinner table, she grows up used to a life of blood, politics and revenge. Its a great story in this telling and it catches you up on one of Gothams not so squeeky clean heroes. The Huntress has long been a favorite of mine, but I really feel this might be one of the best tellings of the tale yet. The series ended in August with the sixth issue, most full service comic stores probably have them in stock, but if you cant find them that way there should be a trape paperback out in the next couple of months. If you put this one on your list, I am pretty sure you wont be disappointed.
A quick not on the cycle progress, I am up to twenty-five minutes on the bike and the weight seems to be still going down. I eat enough so that I dont ever feel hungry, but pizza commercials are annoying as all hell! French fries are missed like an old friend too. I can add bread to my diet tomorrow so sandwiches with turkey and chicken and tuna should be a nice mix to what I am already eating.
Bored yet? Ok thats enough. Later.
