Great Weeken

I had a fun weekend with Leanne, we actually got a lot done. We cleaned, and organized a bunch of stuff around the house. We also took several naps and watched a couple of good movies. My favorite movie of the weekend was Shaun of the Dead. It was a British comedy about one of my favorite movie subjects ZOMBIES!

The real highlight of the weekend was the points match I got to shoot. There was about fifty shooters, seven of which were production shooters. The production division is made up of people shooting guns almost straight from the factory. They have very little modifications, and we can only have 10 rounds of ammunition in our guns. As of right now I took 2nd place, but I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the scoring might have been goofed up. If it gets corrected the way I think it will, I am mostly likely going to end up in first place!!! I had one match last year I took first in, but was really hoping to come out strong this summer and get a couple of first place finishes.

I am a embarrased to admit that I have been getting a slight case of the nerves when I get up to shoot. Aaron and Jon both told me it looked like I was way too nervous. Jon is a Master class shooter who really can't get any better then he is now, so anything he says I have a lot of respect for. When I am shooting every week it isn't really a problem. I pretty much went all winter with no matches, and it just feels like I have been getting myself too pyched up. I need to come up with some mental excersises to calm down and really just try to shoot good and have fun.

Some of my goals are:
  1. Don't think so much about the match the day before.
  2. Show up with a smile
  3. Just worry about my scores
  4. Learn from mistakes and then move on
  5. Pretend like I am shooting at Barney
Other then stressing out I think I had a great match. I didn't make any critical mistakes, or safety errors. I had a few places where I think I could have slown down and got better hits, but I took second place so I can't argue with my aproach too much. When I am shooting longer distances it seems like I am shooting kind of low. One of the things I plan to practice this week is getting my sight up higher on the target. By aiming higher I can insure that more of my hits are in the A zone of target.

Links to some of the videos from my match this weekend.

This was my best stage of the day. I was able to draw and shoot 10 targets twice in 11.65 seconds.

This was the first stage I shot. You won't be able to tell by looking but this is one of the stages I looked really tense on.

Norm Stage 2.MPG

This was a fun stage with some steel to shoot.

Norm Stage 3.MPG

This stage had more steel. It sucked because I had one that didn't fall on the first shot.
