Nice Valley. I think I'll keep it.

Title: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Date Watched: 7/27/2013
Original Ranking Out of 10: N/A
Revised Ranking Out of 10: 8

Synopsis: Something about a girl who can fly and a group of people who come into the valley and some sort of giant battle. I think.

The Good: Beautiful Miyazaki animation, made with genuine love, used to create a world that you just want to explore.

The Bad: I was in a weird mood and wasn't paying close attention.

Why Do I Own This Movie?: Amazon Gold Box Deal.

Should I Still Own This Movie?: Yes. And I should watch it again.

What Did I Notice That I Didn't Notice Before?: This Miyazaki guy sure loves things that fly.

Other Impressions: Full disclosure: I was tired and couldn't pay complete attention to what was going on. Also, I've been busy (everybody's always busy, but I was more than I usually am) and so I'm finally doing this write up nearly two weeks after initially watching the movie. So this is going to be really rough.

What I remember is a girl who flew atop some sort of personal flier along with a cute, but bitey, animal creature that kind of resembled a flying squirrel (I think?). She could talk to mean animals and convince them not to attack her or her friends. Also, the atmosphere wasn't breathable because this took place in a post-apocalyptic world and that's how the cookie crumbles. Also, something about trees. Am I just making this up?

I enjoyed the movie, but, as I said before, feel like I could have been paying closer attention. I don't know if I could recommend it based on this viewing, but I will say that it was a struggle to stay awake -- more because I was exhausted than because of anything about the movie (hell, at various times during my life, I've fallen asleep during Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark as well as pretty much every movie I watched during film school).

So this, I guess, is more a review of myself than the movie and, as such, I'm not going to take the time to proofread it (this is an excuse to finish it quickly so I can go on to the next episode of Breaking Bad). Part of this has to do with the general exhaustion of school and everything else going on in life, but the benefit is I'll be able to watch Nausicaä again and have it feel like the first time all over again.

Lucky me, right?
