The mudbegging season has officially started. Last year I did a total of 3 days' worth of paid gigs, plus a couple of weekends of "visiting" at faires where "The Bonnie Weaver" was vending/demo-ing. This year? 16 days of The Great Unwashed, 6 days of Rufus, and 1 day of "Rufus the Town Crier" (should be interesting...), all paid, plus 1 day of "just visiting." It's going to be a busy summer.
I've already done 2 weekends at The Silver Kingdom Faire. The visit to the ER was ... um... fun. That was the first day - 96 degrees - and I was victim #5. Naturally, dehydration only happens to young, stupid people, not us olde, wise ones. Oops. Well, there was no harm done - the ER pumped 2 liters of saline + electrolytes into me and I was good-to-go. Then I spent that Sunday and all next week telling everyone that, "Yes, I'm just fine now" "Yes, I'm drinking plenty of water" "No, thank you, I just had some water" "..." Let that be a lesson to all of us. If you don't want to spend 8 hours a day being asked the same question over and over again, drink water!!
I've got another Rufus-only gig in a week (Winslow Farm -
http://www.home.comcast.net/~bumblyphinn/site) and then it's time to really get serious and start rehearsing for 3 faire weekends in a row - 2 in Maine and 1 in New York. Of course, it would be nice to have a cast! I'm still missing key performers. It's very frustrating. I send out email after email begging people to at least reply to let me know they've read the thing, and only 2 or 3 do. I ask someone, "Are you available for ...?" and his/her reply is, "Hi! How are you?" grrr
I'm also working on 2 "books" I hope to have ready soon. Be afraid, be very afraid. Most of the text is done, but the artwork sucks. I guess you can only do so much with Microsoft Paint. So, my next step is to either get better software or find an artist (hint, hint) willing to help out.
