Sorry for my late report on Rufus' performance at the Greek Theatre on the 20th of August so here it is!
This was my 3rd (and definitely won't be last!) time seeing Rufus. He played at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. I came yet again with my mom and dad.
some quick rambling about the Greek's ambiance:
it's an outdoor theater and a very 'barbecue-y' place. People could eat hotdogs, hamburgers, fries, etc. in their seats. Kinda weird but it wasn't unpleasant or anything
anyway, the opening act was Martha. I'll admit, it's taken me along time to really like Martha. I didn't like her AT ALL when I first heard her. But she has such a fantastic voice and I really liked her songs and I think I like her voice the best when she sings in French (if you don't know, she has an album out of lesser-known songs sung by Edith Piaf).
and then, RUFUS! Rufus has a quite controversial way of performing songs from his new album All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu. Applause is not allowed and he performs all the songs straight threw without talking and he wears this long black dress w/ a black feather collar (which he looked BEAUTIFUL in!). Also another thing about the Greek, there was LOTS of beer and wine going around and some unfortunate drunk people couldn't contain themselves from applauding. I loved the Lulu cycle but I can understand people not liking it.
Then he came out, all brightly lit stage, lots of applause and sang his classics in the way he always has making jokes and telling stories. Martha came out and accompanied him on a few songs. During Poses, Martha came out to sing back up harmonies like she does on the album and she brought out a very special guest: her adorable baby son Arcangelo! I love babies so I was all like "SHE BROUGHT THE BABY OUT AHHHHH!" Anyway, besides the slightly annoying/drunk audience, it was a great show. He didn't come out to greet fans as far as I know (nor has he the other shows I saw him. Damn, I need to pick a show where he'll come out!)
I currently cant find the setlist, but I post the songs when I do or if anyone has it that would be great too!
