Dith's Challenge

May 22, 2006 18:13

"Now I want to start something here. I am but one person. I know my limits. I want to start a movement. I want to challenge each and every person that will read this message, whether you choose to do something or not, this is going to show me that my faith in my everyday heroes is solid. I want people to make their own tributes to heroes, whether it's public or not, tell someone why they are your hero. Who are your heroes? What is a hero to YOU? More importantly, I want to hear why YOU are a hero. There is not nearly enough of my friends that have the confidence to say that they are heroes, when in fact, I know that they are. Believe. Believe in yourselves. Believe in your friends. Become something more, do something to help others, inspire. Who is going to be the first person to step up and take on my challenge?"

I think everyone is a hero in some way. Some of my biggest heros are animals. They can brighten up my day no matter what. My dog is always glad when I come home, and always sad when I leave without her. She would be happiest to always be in my company.
She was abused when she was a pup but has been able to overcome it. She holds no resentments towards people for what they have done to her, and a pat on the head makes her glow.
ShannahBey (the horse I worked with in high school) taught me so much about life. She taught me to love while you have it, and not to mourn loss but treasure what you had. She taught me patience, and gave me confidence, and showed me that the easiest way to earn a 1,000 lb animal's trust is not through force, it's through yielding.
Lisa is a hero to me that she fights so hard to continue her education and works so hard to earn money to do it. She pays for her car, her gas, her insurance, and god only knows what else, along with paying for school, for which she doesn't even get financial aid because her parents don't want to put down how much they make on the fafsa. Does she let that bet her? No, she just re-adjusts her stance and pushes on that much harder. I think that is heroic.

Why am I a hero?
I am a hero because I faced something that truly scared me.
I am a hero because I have a good heart and I put it to use.
I am a hero because I share my love with friends and strangers.
I am a hero because I don't give up when it gets hard.
I am a hero because I try.
I am a hero because I showed 4-Hers that you don't need to own a horse to go to horseshows. I showed them that it's not about the ribbons it's about the memories.
I am a hero because I adopt mutts instead of buying purebreds.
I am a hero because I research and spread news of wrongful happenings (my 'modern day black beauty' research paper)
I am a hero because I am trying to became a teacher to help the next generation.
I am a hero because I recycle.
I am a hero because I took a sedan over an SUV.
I am a hero because I speak openly about hard times in my life to hopefully help others.
