I love Paris! Aside from it being the closest thing to a real city Ive been in since January (and I didnt realize how much I missed it until I sprung to life upon arrival here), but theres just something about Paris that makes me happy. The weather hasnt been particularly nice, but it hasnt mattered. The only tourist site that made me jump was the Eiffel Tower, when I saw it for the first time from across the Seine. Im just so happy here, theres nothing more to it, and really what more do you need =) I lay awake last night in my parisiene hostel room with the cool air blowing in from the open balcony window, listening to the sounds of Paris at night, and I just closed my eyes and smiled.
I have walked from the Louvre to the Arc de Triomph twice, seen a movie in a theatre on the Champs Elysee (how did that song go?), been to the Catacombs and the Pantheon (tho both were closed!!), Notre Dame (ooo look at those buttresses fly ;) and the Eiffel Tower twice tho only climbed it once. Ive helped French people figure out the metro ticket machine at least two seperate times. Ive gotten caught in the rain once, had crepes at least once a day, and have been asked if I was Australian twice... ::shrug:: =) Now we are staying in Montmarte for the night instead of going to Reims (see the saga of Stephanie for why), and next on my list are the Moulin Rouge and the Rodin Museum =D
Let me tell you what has happened to poor Stephanie. She had her purse stolen when she first arrived from London in Rome and called me late at night from the train station. Thank goodness she had a friend in Rome because the trains from Perugia are few. Her purse ended up being returned, sans digital camera but with passport intact so she spent the week in Rome. Tuesday rolls around, she goes to the airport to catch her flight to Barcelona and finds out the flight was for Monday! Exasperated she went back to London for a few days to regroup and met me in Paris yesterday. Today we took the metro to the train station to go to Reims to visit Margarita, and as were leaving the metro station she looks down and realizes her purse has been unzipped and wallet removed!!! How much more can happen to one person?!
