I Like, Like, Stuff
Stuff on my mind:
-Taylor Swift's more than a promising songwriter. She might just save Popular Country lyricism. Unfortunately, she's not much of a singer. Loved her response to The Kanye Incident on the MTV Video Music Awards this year. She GETS him, how fragile he is, how he's still growing up, how he's faced some hard loss and scrutiny. I personally believe he lacks impulse control, most likely worsened due to injuries from his severe car accident in 2002. I don't know the guy, but I get the sense that he's genuinely confused by his own behavior sometimes.
-I'm worried about the lack of 1) literary and ______ criticism these days and about the lack of 2) critical thinking and reasoning.
-I also think there should be quieter places more often in my life.
-Finnegans Wake kicked my ass. I'm done with it, but I feel seasick and full, like I swallowed the moon and whispered into the ground. I'll probably be assimilating this experience for the rest of my life. Oddly enough, reading an Alejandro Jodorowsky helped immensely. I think I'll be able to go back to some collages soon. I hope so.
-I am not cool. I'm okay with that. As I get older, I'm more and more okay with not being cool and with not having ever been cool. I know a cool older guy. He's a poet named Michael Lally. Any one would meet him and intuit, "This guy's cool." Because he is. Oh, and he didn't become cool with age. He was always cool.
-I've not met anyone under 25 named Wanda or Shirley. This makes me sad.
-The difference between a fresh corn tortilla and one bought from the store is HUGE. Still, a store-bought corn tortilla is pretty good.
-Most of us don't know our rights.
-Most of us don't know our neighbors.
-Most of us don't know how to cook.
Time for bed. I had a dental appointment today. I have to have an old filling replaced. Otherwise, I'm doing okay in the dental region. Hope you're well. Mom says hey.
