Scott Pilgrim vs. the World!!!!

The Hub and I went to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Saturday and loved it. I think the film was the best comic book movie adaptation movie I'd ever seen. The casting was right and the director--Oh, Edgar Wright, you are now my new director boyfriend!--not only didn't mind that the source material was a comic, he let the comic be the second director. This movie's set in an imaginary Toronto, with cute girls named Knives, lonely swing sets, and sound effects you can see. Pretty darned nifty.

The movie ROCKED, too. The soundtrack is Beck's best album in years, easily. I knew I was in for a treat when the opening credits melted my Indie Rock face and written-on Converses off. I'm delighted Broken Social Scene got a hilarious bit, that Kim the drummer was so awesome, and that it looked like the band was actually playing.

I haven't been to many movies lately, due to massive amounts of not caring, but Inception and Scott Pilgrim have made this a pretty decent movie Summer.

It's time to go to work. I hate that working in a bookstore makes me feel like the end of books is nigh. I guess it doesn't help to do this in Los Angeles, for a chain that likely won't survive a couple of years out. Did I tell you we're pimping devices for e-Books and that we have to carry one around and do one demo an hour? Ugh. All this would be more interesting if I weren't the sort of person who, I don't know, loves actual books I can smell and touch and read as quickly as I want. Ugh.

work, movies
