Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (Shopping for Trousers)

Feb 11, 2007 20:47

I ventured into the wilds of Santa Monica today to find smaller trousers. What in the Wide World of Sports is happening with Women's sizing? It's always been more of a suggestion than a hard rule, I know: a 5 at The Gap doesn't equal a 5 in Levi's or in Lucky Brand.

Here's the deal: I am a short woman. I am almost 5 feet tall. Waist: 24-ish when I'm relaxed and exhaled. Hips: maybe 34. I'm not curvy on the lower half at all. I'd been wearing a 6 from Old Navy for a while. It was a little big, but not saggy. I went there today and tried on some khakis in a 4 and they fucking FELL OFF. I've lost some weight, moved some muscle in and some fat out, but that's 2 sizes. Okay, whatever. I go to Hot Topic. Clearance serves me well, the smaller sizes tend to still be on the rack when I get there, and the bottoms aren't Mom-Jeantastic. You know what I'm talking about: the jeans flatten the butt and lengthen it, the waist is reeeeeally high, and the stonewash looks all 80s-y and weird. Yuck. OTOH, I have to hear a lot of Emo-core music. Some of it's okay, a couple of bands are decent enough, but there's not much of the stuff I really like, let alone love. It's okay. It's always interesting to shop in a store where everyone's half my age. I'm not out of touch, so I don't feel uncomfortable, but The Hub had to go outside. Hee.

I found 2 pair of trousers that work and were on sale. They're cut low, so I'm always going to wear a secure belt and bikini undies so I don't show off my fargin' coin slot/plumber's crack. They'll do for a while. I'm still getting into better shape, so we'll see if that affects my thighs. One pair's a 5, cut skinny. The other pair's a 3, cut slimmish. Honestly, their almost the same fit, but they're from different companies. I like gray clothes, so I got gray trous.

*sigh* I talked to a woman once while we were bitching about our clothing woes and she said that she now has to get a double zero. She hadn't lost weight or changed her silhouette. She always wore the same brand, too. She said that they probably change the labels to make women feel better about themselves while shopping for clothes. The HELL?!

I don't even want to talk about shirts. I didn't do that today. I'm not not one to bare my midriff, so it's difficult to find decent shirts I like. Large Boy's shirts work well enough, except for my boobage. Bleah.

clothes, random, rant, shopping
