Everything moves so quickly. We're standing by the side of the road, and the cars buzz by so fast that they're just streams of light. Our eyes are like single-shutter cameras, we can't process so much movement, we simply weren't meant to.

I voice this, and you seem to think it's terribly amusing that I've reduced our heritage, our billion-year-old timelines to something as simple as a human photographic device.

"Of all the things to compare us to, Doctor, and you make it a primitive machine," you say, curling your face into my chest as I hold you.

"Weaeaeaeall," I shrug a bit, a little awkward as my arms are wrapped around your tiny shoulders, fingers linked and comfortable, "I can't see why we can't be compared. We're all very simple creatures, in the end. Not too terribly unlike them."

The lights on the side of the building shine, and the Mona Lisa (14th century, one of eight painted by DaVinci to supplement an evil alien shard, I remember because I was there) appears on the side of the building. It's beautiful, all of this is beautiful, you and I together as we stand in the light of one of the planet's most talented artists.

You tell me that the humans don't live nearly long enough.

I can only agree, but, as I explain, they live such fantastically full lives. Some of them do more with twenty years than we manage in five centuries.

"You're a romantic, you know," you tell me, though I can sense the affection in your voice.

"Ooooh, I'm fairly aware of my romantic tendencies," I reply.

"Especially towards them."

"They're a good race," I say, "Full of ideas, and art. Just look at this. This simple bridge we're standing under that gives us this view. That's them, Catherine. It's all them."

You turn your head to the side, your cheek still resting against me, and look. The world around us is glittering, and shining. It could've been a completely different world, far from the Earth we've visited together so many times, for all the lights and the speed of the place around us.

And you and I? We're so still. Like we've got all the time in the universe, which, I suppose, we do. In this moment. Two Time Lords, the last two Time Lords, embracing under a bridge on Earth as the world speeds by us.

It's amazing, how we've gotten to this moment.

I wish I could take a picture, so it would last longer.
