He finds her asleep against the console.
He hadn't been imagining it when he thought the TARDIS felt disgustingly warm, the ship itself had raised its internal temperature to appease the companion who always feels too cold.
Sentimental old thing, she is.
He rolls each step as he walks over to the demon asleep against the console. She isn't alive so the way her neck is bent as she sleeps probably won't create a soreness in the morning. All the same, it feels wrong to leave her here. And besides, he'll probably need to go under that console later on in the evening, it's not as if he's going to sleep any time soon.
He takes the book from her hands and lays it face down on the ground beside her. Page 112. He won't forget. One arm around her shoulders, the other under her knees and he lifts her up easily. She's lighter than he expects, but she always appears larger---more charisma than body mass.
She doesn't have a room because he honesty didn't expect her to stay that long. One quick trip to get away from the Rutans, that was the plan. But, plans never go quite as he expects, and next thing he knows he finds her asleep in the console room. Well, she's far too interesting to let her go just yet. The Doctor has to learn at least a little more about her.
He turns a corner and a bedroom door he's never seen before is already open. From the wave of heat coming from the room, it's fairly obvious this one was meant for Ruby.
There's a fireplace with a crackling fire, a woodburning heater, and a decorative tray of that glowing Metebelis sunsand on the nightstand keep the warm at an almost uncomfortable heat. Clearly the TARDIS likes Ruby. Well, that means he can't possibly drop her off just yet, the TARDIS would be too upset. And he's not the sort of man to upset his TARDIS, is he?
He lays the woman down on her bed and makes sure her head is more comfortable on the pillow before he turns and leaves the room. He turns back to shut the door and he almost thinks she's smiling, woken up the moment he came into the console room.
But that's Ruby. She doesn't do what he expects.
