Dear Lorna,
I can't stand modern sympathy cards. Most of them have some flower of some sort on it and most are this dramatic, turned-aside lily. Does the lily represent death on Earth or something? Makes very little sense to me.
So, uh, here's my card to you. It's a graph representing the googled words "Ubuntu", "kitten", and "pie", showing that Linux is more popular than both. I…well, I hoped it might bring some sort of a smile to your face. Smiles when you're facing a loss are harder to come by than decent sympathy cards.
There is a point to this postcard, by the way. I heard about your father and wanted to let you know that here should you need me.
Sometimes apologies feel very flat during a time like this, I know. Instead of an apology, I offer you a gift. This phone inside is a pre-paid one…picked it up at the market. It only has one phone number in it: mine. And around 50 minutes of air time…sorry, they didn't have an atm in the market. You have my promise to arrive should you need me. Never know when you might need a Doctor.
Take care of yourself,
