Buying in the 11th is almost twice as expensive as in Créteil. Dovid says most frum either rent, or live in social apts which can take years to get in this area.
He called Yad Mordehai and it was scary. First they wanted to know if we were "Israelite" (yuck at the word), then how we knew the place... they only became all soft and nice when we "whipped out" the yichus and kollel studies. How sad. It remembered me how no sem would take me because I couldn't read Hebrew - until I said I was so and so's "einikel" (people seem to use einikel for descendant, not only grandchild, I learned) and then...... I was suddenly a valuable person to have, and they would do without the Hebrew until I got a passing grade (wait, that's not cheating?).
That plus my rav telling me not to go but continue university discouraged me.
