I another couple of friends who go back and forth about selling their house and move back to seattle (rent). Their situation is now that he is not happy and never has been happy living where they bought their house (Kent). He wants to go back to school. Is tired of the jpbs he is taking because they have to make their morgage and wants to be closer to the city and friends again. I don't think it is irresponsible, I think that maybe the pressure to buy a house and the apparent status it gives people is overrated.
especially when there are you are not totally happy about where you are.
If you owned a house in an area you liked it might be worth the sacrifce of not staying with the kids for as long as if you would otherwise. Or not.

I live in the city but far enough away from any really cool stuff that I sort of understand what you mean. It takes me 45 monutes to walk to an area to window shop, get decent coffee and a half hour to walk to a playground for the girl. Ok maybe I am just lazy, but I do like to walk and used to walk everywhere all the time, but now half an hour each way is so much time out of my day.

Sorry I turned it into and All about me.

I think you should do what would make you happiest. Looking at your list I would vote for moving back to Seattle.
