So, since I never made the post I intended about how great my last Friday was, I guess it's not too late to mention it here:
I saw PoA and loved it!! I won't go into detail because it's been well covered by everybody else. Although it was a bit strange to spend the first 10 minutes afterward chattering to my friend who hadn't read the books, filling in all the blanks about the foursome and their relationship and such. It didn't seem to affect her enjoyment of the movie, really, but it still seemed like a lot of missing information. Anyway, then in the afternoon I got my wireless network set up and working! Chatting online while sitting in bed was a great way to end the day. And to spend most of my rainy Saturday too! It was a nice weekend.
The week in between has been pretty quiet. I had weird computer issues: my keyboard stopped working on Tuesday and the wireless network stopped working on Wednesday, for some unknown reason, but I was able to get a new keyboard and get things back going on Thursday, so I'm writing it all off as minor hassles. Yay for internet access from work!
Although, having an unexpected holiday today didn't hurt my feelings at all! I have plenty of work I could have done - but I'm just as glad I didn't have to go into the city today. No doubt the traffic is absolutely insane. I feel a little odd, as if I should care more, but I have to admit I just don't get the appeal of spending all that time and effort just to see a casket. I suppose it's an historical event and all, but still...
So instead I drove a little ways the opposite direction to the movie theater and spent a very enjoyable time watching The Chronicles of Riddick!
Okay, this is looking long, so I'll cut it here before I ramble about the movie.
But no spoilers, I promise!
For the most part, it was what I think of as a really good action movie. Lots of fight scenes and special effects and such - but it didn't 'depend' on those, if that makes any sense. There was enough plot and interesting enough characters that it wasn't at all predictable or boring. Overall I'm left feeling really great about it! I knew it was a good sign, too, when I found myself standing in the parking lot saying I'm ready to see the next one already. I want to know what's going to happen! I just hope they actually make it.
It was also one of those movies where you keep recognizing the actors. Couldn't tell you where I'd seen most of them before, but so many of them looked familiar!
Vin Diesel, of course, I knew. He always confuses me, because I look at pictures of him and just don't find him all that attractive. But when he's up on the screen? He's got... something. Well, he's got a great body, but it's more than that. His presence? His attitude, I guess. The character has such complete confidence in himself. It's just... really hot.
And Karl Urban! I've had a thing for him for a long time, but I'd forgotten he was supposed to be in this so it was an excellent surprise. He had a significant part and he looked damned good! Made me happy.
The girl was really familiar too, but I have to admit I didn't actually put my finger on her as 'electro-girl' until I saw her name in the credits. It was a very 'duh' moment.
Because I knew I was going today, I actually made a point of rewatching Pitch Black last night. Yes, I'm that much of a dork! I had forgotten how much I really liked it. For a sci-fi/horror movie it's very well done. And very suspenseful.
As it turns out, the new movie was much more of a direct sequel than I was expecting. It wasn't necessary to have seen it but, if you had, there were a number of payoffs to enjoy. And some parts of the movies were very much alike, even though there was a distinct genre switch from horror into action.
Anyway... did I mention I liked it?
I'm going to stop babbling now and go find other ways to enjoy the holiday. Like trying to get restituere!Ron well enough to go to the party tonight without strangling him in annoyance first. And continuing to giggle over the aftermath of the events at
hp_dungeons yesterday. Life on the internet is fun sometimes, isn't it?
