Is it a bad thing to be a prep?

The important thing really is (and I know this sounds cliché) to be yourself. There are going to be labels, yes. But those labels are only as good as someone else's definition.

Look at me. I'm admittedly a nerd, because I fit a lot of the classic nerd definitions. I always dress up (I don't own a single pair of jeans, you know), I'm into computers, I enjoy reading and writing, I get decent grades, went to a decent college...heck, I even did the choir-nerd thing (if only for a few weeks). Sounds like a nerd to me.

Then again, my music collection is pretty diverse...from Amy Grant to Yellowcard. I played the drums when we had a kit...now I have a guitar I have to learn to play. I drive a car that's pretty fast, and want to do some work to it this summer. I play video games, but only as a side habit. I like action movies with a lot of explosions. So does that still make me a nerd because I have glasses, wear button-down shirts, and get good grades?

And even more importantly, does it really matter what I am so long as I can be a good friend?

If it matters to others how you dress according to what's popular and what's not, those people aren't worth your time. Be yourself, and people will recognize you for it. You're a great girl, and I think you'd be as amazing no matter how you dress or what kind of social tag they pin on you.
