Blah, blah, blah

So, last Friday I planned on leaving work early to escape to the parentals...

After dealing with a very nasty episode at work which ended up making that day the worst day I have ever had a work, I managed to leave the office at 4:30...not 1:00.. I did manage to avoid driving to Houma due to the work related fiasco, but just barely.

After battling the traffic... we waited till 6:15 to leave... thinking we'd miss most of the traffic but instead got caught in the aftermath of a wreck...

We finally arrived at the parentals' house.

I promptly had a few drinks to mellow out and we had a really good time. I did sleep late. I did enjoy the home cooking. I didn't make it to the hot tub, but I did spend a lot of time hanging out on the deck. And, I did manage to relax.

The folks are doing ok. Mom is fully recovered. Dad looks tired and beaten down, but his spirits are good. He's a tough one. I wish the weekend had been longer so I could spend more time with them.

This week has been quite busy, but not nearly as bad as last week. Course, I'm working like a fool and will be through the weekend. So much to do.

Little R got his white belt in karate. He's so very excited. We kept trying to explain to him (when he would complain about being the only kid in the class that hadn't yet got their white belt) that he had just started. He stayed focused and worked hard and got his belt. He was so excited and proud. It was adorable. Now he's working to get his yellow belt. I think this is going to be very good for him. There are two tournaments coming up this Summer and he's wants to compete in them. My son is discovering his competitive genes. I love it.

Little T has been selected to participate in the Duke University talent program. It's quite cool. They pick the top 5% of 7th graders to apply based on their standardized test scores from the end of the 6th grade. Those kids take the ACT or the SAT and the top 25% highest scores from those tests determine whether you are accepted into the program. She'll be spending her summers from here on out attending summer camps at various universities across the country studying art, literature, science and math. It's designed to be like a college semester during the summer. She chose North Carolina for her first summer camp. It's hella expensive, but that's why I work, no?

All in all life is good.
