this is the current away message of someone i went to college with: "spending time with the baby... then making a practice birthday cake.... can't believe he's going to be 1 in exactly a week!"
ok, am i the only one about to have an aneurism over that statement? first off, the idea of practice birthday cakes annoys the shit out of me. unless you're making a cake for Jesus's definite arrival to your house, there's no need to make a practice cake if you aren't a baker. seriously, if i mess up, too bad, eat a fallen cake! who's to say things won't go wrong the second time anyway? this isn't basketball tryouts.
second, THE KID IS 1!! He's going to dig his slobby ass hands in the damn cake and rub it all over his grill anyway! the party is more for you than him anyway. He's not going to look back at the pictures and say "gee, mom, that cake's ok, but you really should've done a dry run first. I've always wanted to tell you when I was BABBLING INTO A TEETHING RING!" What a waste of time!
