Dear Friends

Last night I went to see the Atlanta "Dear Friends" concert. I don't believe it will be a night I'll forget anytime soon.

For those of you not in the know, the "Dear Friends" concert is Nobuo Uematsu's way of thanking his fans for all the support they've given him over the last two decades. It is three hours of music from the various Final Fantasy games, played, in this case, by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

The music was absolutely breathtaking. While I think their best-played piece of the night was "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy 7(complete with chorus!), the piece that hit me the hardest was "Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy 10. "Zanarkand" is a gentle, melancholy theme, speaking of loss. Set to images of Yuna dancing, sending fallen spirits to the Farplane, and Tidus watching on, I spent most of the song fighting back tears.

For those of you who missed the concert, fear not! We were instructed to write to Square-Enix and ask for them to come again to the United States. With as many concerts that were sold completely out this time around, I'd say that there's at least a fair chance they'll be coming again.
