A rare moment, to be remembered and cherished.

Every once in a long while, you have a day that will stick in your memory forever. For me, today was such a day.

Two days ago, I found out my mother had remarried, last week. She'd been living with the gentleman for a good while now, so this wasn't a total shock...but then today came. And today, sitting down with the family for Christmas...it hit me that I now have, in addition to my younger brother, two sisters and a brother-in-law(a like-minded one, no less!). All my mom's previous remarrages have been childless, with just me and Chris. I now have new siblings. This, folks, was a major revelation for me, something to seriously reflect on.

And so, I sat there, in my mother's old rocking chair, holding my brand new, four month old niece in my arms, crooning her softly to sleep with 'Silent Night', and thinking. She was so adorable, her tiny eyelids drooping as I sang, her little fingers wrapped around my fingertip, as she snuggled up against my chest, cradled in my arms. And then it struck me. I...am an uncle. it made me realize that I'm getting to be daddy age now, at 25...with 26 just around the bend. It was a warm, warm feeling, holding that little flame of life so close to me, and knowing that my time might come sooner than I had thought. I'm not as alone as I was before.

Merry Christmas, indeed. ^_^
