This is a new community. It is called
wordsinthebrain. It is called that because I said so.
This is how it works:
This community is for writers.
Not just people who write and post or publish things regularly. If you write things, you're a writer. This community is for you.
Writing is a skill. It does not require genius, but it does require practice and training. The best way to be a better writer is to WRITE MORE THINGS. It does not matter if they are short things, long things, silly things, pointless things, experimental things, or any other kind of things. It only matters that you write them, regularly and consistently.
To all of those who have never shared their writing before... share it with us!
COMMUNITY RULES:
1) BE NICE. To everybody. Sharing one's work makes one feel vulnerable and anyone who exploits that will be kicked out on their ass.
2) SHARE. It's fine if you can't post EVERY week, but no lurkers. There will be multiple prompts throughout the week. Pick one (or more) and make something out of it. It can be short. It can be silly. It doesn't have to have a plot. Just write some words and share them.If you WANT constructive suggestions, ask for them. If someone doesn't ASK, don't offer.
3) COMMUNICATE. This is important. This is why communities end up failing... BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T RESPOND TO EACH OTHER. If you choose to be a member of this community, you will be expected to provide comments to at least TWO of your fellow writers for each week's stories. That's two comments a WEEK. It won't kill you. More is clearly better. I will not kick you out if you don't do this every week, but I will nag you about it. Writing without feedback and encouragement isn't as much fun.
4) USE LJ CUTS. If you don't know how, ask. If something is longer than about 500 words, takes up a lot of space on the page, or contains images, put it under a cut. If it contains adult material put it under a cut and clearly label it as adult material!
5) Use the following general format for headers:
TITLE:
AUTHOR:
PROMPT:
WORD COUNT: (estimate is fine)
SUMMARY: (keep it short and sweet)
WARNINGS:
(If you choose not to provide warnings, you must note that warnings are not listed. Warnings are expected for adult content of any kind, graphic violence, or other things you might want to be warned about. If you have a question, just ask me)
PROMPTS:
Prompts will be posted at least three times per week. There will be as much variety as I can think of, since different writers find that different things spark their ideas. Prompts may include a word, a phrase, a quote, an image, or whatever else I can think of. You do not have to use all of them. If you write something you really want to share that doesn't fit ANY of them, go for it. You do not have to post your writing in the same week that the prompt was posted, but try to do it within a week or two, or else people will forget. Suggestions for prompts are welcome. Send 'em on over.
Writing is fun and exciting and hard and frustrating and beautiful and difficult. The more you do it, the easier it gets. So start writing now... it doesn't have to be "good". It just has to be words. Put them out there and let them shine!
THERE ARE LOTS OF PLACES TO SHARE YOUR WRITING. I WANT THIS ONE TO BE AN ACTUAL COMMUNITY. YOU ARE ALL WRITERS. EVERYONE IS A WRITER. COME AND SEE WHAT A LITTLE BIT OF WRITING ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK WILL DO FOR YOUR BRAIN AND YOUR CREATIVITY.
(OH, YEAH... AND PLEASE PIMP THIS WHEREVER YOU WOULD LIKE. I'M SERIOUS ABOUT THIS BECAUSE I NEED THIS COMMUNITY. SO COME AND MAKE IT HAPPEN. I WANT MEMBERS AND I WANT 'EM NOW AND EVERYBODY CAN WRITE A PARAGRAPH ONCE A WEEK)
