What a nice walk to accompany my breakfast! Fairy mullein: we have loads in our garden in Portugal but I first came across it in Germany, where it is called either king candle, if it has just one upright flower stem, or queen candle if it has branching flower stems that look like a candelabra. I have no idea what your red flower with the lobed leaves is... I have saved your picture of the ghost trees to enjoy all over again. Thank you!
I've saved the photo and will get daughter and grandson to look too. We want to give him a nature project while he's in Portugal. He had a 'meltdown' at school recently because although they were discussing leaf variation in a 'science' class (he's 7) they either refused or were unable to give him any mathematical formulae or statistics. We thought some kind of self-created database in a special scrapbook might help with the disappointment... I am hoping for a better organised look at my wild flowers - well, the ones that flower in July and August, anyway.
