ANOTHER nature post because I have nothing else to talk about...

School is school and I love the subject matter... it's just that this program is too good to have people in it like Rainbow Unicorn Fart Girl for me to laugh at and/or bang my head against the wall over. If you want, I'll tell you about the final paper I wrote for my one class about the Sin Nombre hantavirus. If you don't want, I won't. I think it' ( Read more... )

It's pretty basic. He limited us to 5-6 pages. That's NOTHING. I could have gone on for 20.

You have plenty of various parasiting mushrooms there! Definitely more species than we have here. Actually we have those hard ones...I don´t remember seeing the gilled ones. Or I might have seen them but didn´t pay attention. But thanks to you, I am learning:-)
Woodpeckers are amazing! They work on old, old oaks and they make similar holes in several floors. But I have never seen such a "proper" work like on your picture.
Don´t mention columbines to me...wild or others! They INFESTED my flower beds last year and I still have to weed them. They have millions of tiny seeds and they get EVERYWHERE and survive EVERYTHING. They are lovely - but enough is enough.
Lovely lake...it is there for you!
My last moan: grass is in full bloom here and spread pollen everywhere...atchooo. Sorry. I can´t wait haymaking begins - which is now but the meadow next to our house is still producing the powder! Atchoooo!:-)

We have some very large species of woodpeckers here, bigger than the ones that live in Europe, and I think it's the big ones that do the most damage. They are almost as big as a crow and it doesn't take them long to make a mess.

These trees are prone to fungal infections because this is an immature forest and young trees are constantly falling on each other, and other kinds of damage occur, and whenever the bark is damaged, fungi can get in. Older trees can often grow around the damaged area (like the hollowed-out pine) but younger ones often can't.
