Walked ON my lake today...

Feb 21, 2015 21:42

Not NEAR my lake, or on the trail beside my lake... took a stroll right across it. Well, about halfway across. That's when I lost the set of snowmobile tracks I was trying to follow and realized that with the snow falling so hard and the sky being white and the ground being white and the snow being about two feet deep, I probably didn't need to put too much more distance between me and my car. I still had a hell of a time getting back to my car, because I could not find either the snowmobile tracks or even my own tracks in the whiteout, and I kept falling, because snow randomly decides to be a lot deeper than one is expecting.

ANYWAY...

For comparison, this is where I was today, except this is in the summer.

And this is it today. At NOON. No sun. Just snow everywhere. Of course, the fact that it was cloudy was the only reason the temperatures made it above zero for the day...

The floating dock you can see in the summer picture is pulled up on the bank and buried under this pile of snow.

This is a picture taken from standing in what would be the water in the middle of the first picture. That bench (the nearest snow-covered thing) sits several feet back from the water. It's a little weird... I've only seen it from out here while kayaking before.

And this is what it looks like standing on the lake. Not much ice to be seen. This was well over my knees.

And THIS is why I don't go out in the winter if I can help it. The snow around here is just... I don't know. It's a little much.
