I don't blame people for thier recent lack of enthusiasm. I have felt it too. Book 5 was a traumatic experience from which I have not fully recovered

HP took a back seat to random anime and episodic television. Rarely were there passionate posts about HP characters and even less frequently were there wild speculations about the actions of the next book.
I think part of that is because a lot of fans have discussed the HP universe to death. The first couple of months after OotP was released, practically everybody had a review of OotP in their journal, and canon discussions abounded. What I think is going on right now is that most fans are feeling a little drained (you can only discuss a character(s) for so long before you run out of things to say), and so are turning to other fandoms temporarily to give themselves a little bit of a breather before returning. Well, I know I certainly feel that way.
As for Ginny, I never really took notice of her before OotP (well, except for that bit in CoS), and didn't like her at all when she reappeared more prominently in book 5. My first reaction, as I recall, was along the lines of, "Where the heck did Super Ginny come from? Be amazed as she wows you with her witty attitude and killer flying skills, developed seemingly overnight." However. Now that I'm rereading OotP again, she's actually not that bad. In reconsidering her character, I realize that her change isn't all that unplausible. We didn't see much of her at all throughout PoA and GoF, so who's to say that she didn't open up and take after Fred and George (ahem, Bat Boogie spell) during those 2 years?
As a fan who has been hurt before (cough, Star Wars, cough cough) ...
What happened with Star Wars. Ah. Painful to talk about. It was something called a Kprequel" and it made every original trilogy fan I know cry and cry. Also, Han Solo Shot first. That is I have to say.
