[When the feed clicks on, at first all that's visible is tangled bed sheets. There's a soft murmur that may or may not have been a curse as the watch is flipped over to reveal a battered and beaten but no longer broken Switzerland. He winces before he speaks, being careful to not draw too deep a breath for his still mending ribs and freshly whole ( Read more... )

[Well now, Temper had wondered if this one had gone and gotten himself too hurt to pop up again. How nice to see he was mistake. He turns on the communicator to watch silently for a moment.]

What trouble did you get yourself into?

[Vash stares at the communicator for a few moments-- okay, this was not one of the people he had been expecting to hear from. He attempts to raise an eyebrow but only manages a wince.]

I assume I was in the catacombs. How I got there... well, I was hoping you might be able to answer that.

[Temper shakes his head slightly.] The catacombs are strange places. Certainly there are bad children who deserve some time to think that wind up there, but that's not the type you are. Is it?

...Are you trying to imply that the Catacombs are beyond your control? That you had no idea what was happening to me in them? Because I would find that more terrifying than the whole ordeal I just went through if I were you... That there are things in this city beyond even your almighty powers.

Unless you're just playing dumb and you knew exactly what was going on, and then I should be asking you exactly what I did to deserve getting sent there.

[Beyond plotting to unseat Temper and his "family" as the rulers of the city. But that's nothing new.]

I'm not trying to imply anything. They're within our grasp should we care to affect them. But really, they're dark, distasteful places. I'm not fond of them.

[Temper is a creature of comfort; he always has been.]

But now, no sense dwelling on the past. You're alive, after all.

["Dark, distasteful places" was the understatement of the year in Vash's opinion.]

Alive, yes, and on the mend. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear I foresee a full recovery sooner rather than later.

...Temper, why have you really contacted me? You never just do something. None of your "family" does.

I am quite pleased to hear that, yes. [The words are spoken casually enough, but there's no hint of anything in his expression.]

No? That is giving us quite a lot of credit. Perhaps I'm just curious. What did you find down there?

What did I find?

[A darkness floods Vash's features as faint, black memories struggling to surface. Flashes of pain, growls and screams and blood and...]

...Nothing.

Nothing? How disappointing, to have that much time lost and nothing to show for it.

[Temper sighs ever so softly.] How very discouraging.

...Not nothing.

[Vash raises an eyebrow as best he can.]

I learned that I will survive even being ripped to shreds, even though I'm not in my heartland. That's good to know.

...Why? Was there something I was supposed to learn? To discover?

Well. I suppose that is a valuable lesson.

[Those last questions though, they have Temper humming softly, thoughtfully.]

I suppose we'll never know, will we?

...You spoke as if you had something specific in mind, Temper. I'm afraid I'm not quite up to mind games right now, if that's what you're after.

Nothing of the sort. But don't let me keep you from your rest if you need it. My curiosity is idle at best. It can wait.

I’ve been resting for days now, Temper, and my curiosity is not so idle. How are you and your family adjusting to being the ones in charge of us all? I imagine it must be easier to split the power seven ways rather than the Watcher and Interloper’s two. Of course, it may be that your group is a few too many to really have impenetrable armor.

It's not so much of an adjustment. Merely a change in venue for us.

Impenetrable? No, certainly not. No one is ever as invincible as they believe they are. Myself and my kin are no exception. But we have the power we have, the purpose we have, and until our time amongst the worlds ends, we'll serve that purpose.

But as for splitting power... well, not all members of my family are equally ambitious.

I've never been clear on what your purpose is, to be honest. Every time I ask I get the run around.

Who are the ambitious ones, then?
