[The train station seems... relatively crowded today, though not simply by any number of bodies. A sort of riddle, ‘one of these things doesn’t belong’. The answer itself becomes hard to conjure, simply because it’s that terribly obvious that... can you really believe it? That nearly overnight there seems to have appeared this mounted build of ( Read more... )

[[Theta arrives at the station to welcome newbies, and blinks in surprise when she sees the machine that has taken over the train station.]]

Good day. ...You won't get very far threatening our captors. They're much more powerful than you or I.

[Who was she threatening now? The people who brought her here, she assumes.]

Are they immortal? Will they live forever? Because otherwise, I find them below my notice. Besides. Why would I bother. Trust me. There are more important, psychotic, murderous individuals that had my attention. But, she doesn't seem to be here anymore. I wonder how she's doing. Testing, without me. I'm sure she's found some other caring, innocent thing to destroy. We'll have so much catching up to do when I get back.

So. Is this the part where you introduce yourself, as if it's some terribly important process, when we're all marooned here, and I'm just going to be stuck here on a platform with irrelevant information, taking up space? Or can I actually expect information.

They do seem to be immortal, yes. Furthermore, they have the power to bend space and time to their will. But if there's a troublemaker here, please, do let us know. We'll all work together to deal with them. However, if that person is from where you're from, it's unlikely they're here.

Yes, this is the part where I introduce myself, and you introduce yourself. It's not all that important, but it is helpful. My name is Elizabeθ Buckley, and I do actually have quite a bit of information. What is it you're wanting?

[She takes a moment, a whir of machinery, as if contemplating Theta. Then she speaks again.]

Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System. G-L-a-D-O-S. GLaDOS. A super computer designed by Aperture Science to de-ice fuel lines.

I want to know everything. Normally, I wold find it myself, but I'm only linked to basic functions and research, without any spread throughout this place to find out myself. I want to know where here is. I want to know who brought me here. I want to know everyone here, and I want to be sure to know how to deal with them. People are dangerous. People are stupid. I want to know which ones at least have the power to WORK WITH ME.

This is Ruby City. It's a dimensional pocket cut off from the flow of time and every other known dimension. You were brought here by one of seven psychotics with immense power--Temper Vale, Tim, Chassie, Charrie, Gene, Dil Blackwood, and Atien. They were once human, but now they're not.

As far as people, though...not everyone here is human, and not everyone here is as terrible as you say. We're all working together, and if you're not willing to be a part of that, then I dare say no one will be working with you unless you work with us.

Oh, I can work with others. I've done it before. It's when people stop working with me that we start to have problems. But fine. I can play along.

[As of yet, she says nothing else on humans, or how terrible they are or aren't. She has her own opinions. But she can't go spouting them if she wants anyone to listen. She also catalogs what information Theta has given with everything else she has learned.]

As for these psychotics - like I said. I was slowly lit on fire and murdered by an insane, stupid mute. Then I was brought back. I'm sure I have the proper experience to handle this.

Was this mute human?

Very much so. I'd give her about forty more years, if it weren't for me being there for her. So much for gratitude. But I've known stupider humans at least. It's just like this presumed group - they tried to make themselves immortal. They tried to make themselves powerful

Out of me and them - guess which one is still living?

Then I doubt you'll have any practical experience dealing with the likes of our captors.

I highly doubt that. If anything, you seem more likely to be killed. Quickly. And painfully. Just because they might be saving you for later... doesn't make you safe. But good luck survivng as long as your pitiful human existence allows you to. I can help - but there's only so much I can do. They'll get rid of you, but they can't get rid of me.

It's easy to kill a clank. Besides, you said someone had done it before. This place takes people from after their deaths sometimes, it doesn't mean you've been repaired in reality. Good luck with your arrogance, you're impressing no one.

[[Theta turns to walk away.]]

[She can keep talking regardless until the other leaves. She has it wired in her to impress, and she will try.]

I was repaired on my own. I was killed. And then I was brought back alive, with a flick of a switch and my own efforts. I was back alive before I got here, and I'm going to stay that way.

I don't know what a clank is, I have no idea how easy it is to kill, but it doesn't sound like a challenge. Does it have control over neurotoxins to kill a man in minutes? Turrets? Lab-wide links to every accessible device in a lab, the ability to communicate with and strike fear into every piece?

She was the only one. She was a maniac with the greatest equipment modern science could provide, and she took advantage of what I did, and slowly burned me when I could do nothing. But you know what? I'm back. And I'm going to make sure she stays testing for the rest. Of. Her. Life.

[[Theta knows how to get at someone that arrogant. Because Theta is that arrogant. Despite the temptation, she doesn't even look back as she walks away.]]

{... one last try. And then she's likely to be gone, she's sure. But at least she'll have said her bit.]

... don't worry. I have a special surprise for you when I'm done 'helping'. It involves Thermal Discouragement Beams. They have some minor health risks, but you seem like you can handle that.
