[At first, the video shows the roof of the trainstation, though loud, long strides carry long strands of silver hair into view before the watch is picked up. Hello, Ruby City. Do you remember Squalo? He remembers you. One of the reasons why he's currently glaring bloody murder at the recording device.]

Voooooooi I don't have time for this shit ( Read more... )

I would like to politely request that you not swear. Or at the very least, not yell. I almost soldered my hand to this circuit board.

[Sorry, Squalo. A pissy teenager glowering at you is probably not the welcome you were hoping for]

[A pissy, grey-skinned, horned teenager at that. WHAT THE FUCK? He'll take a second to stare at Equius.]

... oh, would you? Well you're shit out of luck in that case! Sorry to say [he doesn't sound sorry in the least] I'm going to raise my voice whenever the fuck I feel like it. You've got the option of not tuning in.

[snort] I do not understand why so many people resort to such lewd language. It is not impressive, you know. It only makes you look like an uncivilized ignoramus. And it does not make you look tough, either.

See, if I gave a fuck how it made me look, I'd probably take more care. And compassion is not one of the virtues I cultivate, so if you can't take enough care to close the damn watch while you're working on something, you've got yourself to blame, brat.

[He's just going to give Squalo a baleful look over the rims of his glasses] You would like Karkat. He likes to rant meaninglessly at the top of his lungs too.

And for the record, even if the lid had not snapped off a few weeks ago, you are not the only person on the network. I could have had it open so that I could communicate with my matesprit. Or maybe Johanna was singing again earlier, and I had it open so that I could listen. It is called being considerate, and it is one of the few things that separates people from cretins.

[blah, blah, blah. Some wordy brat thinking he could leave a lasting impression on him. Wow, Squalo is so impressed with you.]

So if that lid snapped off, why didn't you fix that? Or have it fixed?

[It's also clear that he's... not really caring who he's talking to, or about the conversation as a whole, while he looks around and surveys his surroundings.]

[Equius is just as impressed with him. Only he has these things called manners making him be civil instead of just dropping the call]

Because it would have only snapped off again. Fortuitously, the lens repairs itself, or I do not think I would have one anymore.

[But if Squalo wasn't going to pay attention to him, he wasn't going to either. Flicking hair from his face, he grabs the circuit board he'd been working on and his soldering iron]

Aah. [He smirks, once again looking at the watch. It was easy enough to deduce from the kid's words.]

Too much strength for your own good, huh?

[Glancing over, Equius gives him a small nod]

It is a blessing and curse, but I have long learned to manage. My STRENGTH is a point of pride when it is not a source of frustration.

[The smirk widened just a fraction. So much for making a point of ignoring him.]

So it's not possible to make something sturdy enough to withstand it?

[Equius would like to kindly invite you to bite him. He's not looking up from his work otherwise]

Oh, of course I can. My hive and many of my belongings were properly reinforced back on Alternia. I do not know if you can see behind me, but the walls of this building have been covered by metal sheets that have been hardened as much as possible. However, the technology here is vastly beneath what I am used to handling. I have been working to restore my old workroom, but progress is slow. There are only so many hours in a night, and I do like to socialize for a fraction of it.

[He points the soldering iron at the watch] Thus, the reason this was left on.

I~ see. [He saw a couple of things, in fact. And this guy seemed entirely serious about all of them. Not having to ask about every little stupid thing was definitely a plus about being perceptive.]

How long've you been here then?

Fifteen days. You implied you have been here before?

I was. About two months ago, for this place. A bit more for me.

[That makes Equius pause his work, one hand cupping his chin thoughtfully]

Would it be audacious of me to assume that you did not chose to leave, and were merely transported away?

I had no more say in the matter than I had about returning here, so your assumption is right on the mark.
