[Another drag on his cigarette as he listens to Naoki speak.] It does. But that's selfish of me. He shouldn't have to be trapped here too.

[The last bit of what Naoki has to say though? Makes him smile.]

Thank you. And the same is true the other way too.

[Naoki is a friend. Therefore, Gil will shoot anything that even thinks about hurting him.]

I suppose so. [Here though, his smile changes and he sighs.] Now I hate to say it, but I almost expect the stupid rabbit to show up too. Maybe that wouldn't be entirely a bad thing... [As it turns out, she's quite useful when it comes to keeping Oz safe.]

[If Gil notices the change in expression or the rather emphatic cutting, he doesn't say anything... for now.] It does seem that way, doesn't it? [What's going on in that little brain of yours, Naoki? Gil is le curious.]

She's obnoxious. And loud. And all she wants to do is eat and make noise. She has no idea how to be a normal person. [He pauses.] Which, she's not. She's a chain. Oz's chain. She's... not so bad, really. [If her very existence didn't jeopardize Oz's? He'd have fewer problems with her. Alice is ok, he has to admit.] Oz is very fond of her.

[Aww. Poor Naoki. Gil nods though.] Then this place is capable of even that? [...Gil should not talk about this like it's completely unexpected. He's died before. He just doesn't remember this.] Naoki..?

Ah... [Here's where his eyes will go wide. Oh. Oh see now he never thought of THAT. ...why does that make him so very, very cranky to think about?] ...not that fond. [He pauses and sighs.] Or maybe he is.

[He frowns just a little bit at that.] Something on your mind? [Dumb question. There very obviously is. The real question Gil wants to know is will he share?]

[It takes Gil only a minute to piece this together in his mind. He blinks a bit before his expression softens.] You've lost someone. [It's not a question, more an observation.] To have the hope of seeing them again dangled in front of you in a place like this...

Naoki... [Gil sort of looks confused at that.] Shouldn't get the chance? [Oh yeah, that sounds like guilt. Gil speaks that language.]

I... in a way I understand. To think that you don't deserve... [Here though he kind of smiles.] But sometimes you're not the one who should make that choice. Or the one who gets to make it. It's easy to blame yourself for things... In my case, even after how I betrayed him, how it was my fault... Oz welcomed me back to his side. [Uh, after the whole oh-so-clever-secret-identity thing he pulled.] You might be surprised, how things work out sometimes. You're a good person, Naoki.

[He hasn't seen Naoki like this before. It's... a little heartbreaking.] It wasn't your fault, Naoki. [He doesn't know the circumstances, but what the other boy is saying makes him quite certain it wasn't.]
