[Jim is still on the train station platform, but it hasn't taken him long at all to figure out how to work his funny little pocketwatch thingy, maybe ten, fifteen minutes tops. He's just good with technology like that.]

Hello, there. I'm Captain James T. Kirk of the USS EnterpriseI see there's quite a few of us here in the city. [Yyyup. He took a ( Read more... )

Hello, Captain. I am General Sephiroth of the ShinRa Army.

Yes, it would seem there are more than a few of us here, from various worlds. Unfortunately, we can only guess at what's going on.

Hello, General. Good to meet your acquaintance.

No ideas about how or why we were brought here?

Magic, I would assume. It's certainly what keeps us here. As to why, well, it can't be for anything good. I doubt we've won anything.

[Jim snorts.] Magic. Yeah, sure.

Won what, like a vacation or something? Thanks but no thanks. I've got things to do.

I don't understand your confusion, Captain. Magic simply is.

[there is a short pause while Sephiroth looks around at his abandoned, deteriorating surroundings.]

I can't think of a better vacation spot. Can you? As for having business elsewhere, I believe we are all agreed on that as well. It hardly seems to matter.

[Primedirectiveprimedirectiveprimedirectiveprimedirectiveprimedirective. Jim Kirk, do not open your mouth and say what you want to say. Prime motherfucking directive.] Magic. Right, of course. How could I forget? [... smartass.]

Yeah, I can, actually. [A sunny beach with lots of babes.] I fail to see how it doesn't matter. If we've got better places to be, that just makes it all the more important for us to get back.

[Pauuuuse. And then you're actually graced by annoyance in his tone, Kirk. Congratulations!] If you come from a world without magic, you can simply say so. There is no need to patronize me. Should you require a demonstration, I could meet you somewhere.

The statement was relative, Captain. I do not doubt it means something to you, but I hardly think it means a thing to those who've brought us here.

[... um.] My apologies, General. I didn't mean to patronize you. [And he could explain the prime directive here, buuuut that would be violating said prime directive. Regardless, that sounds like a threat. Or a challenge. Or both. Either way, there's only one thing to say to that.] I'm sure that isn't necessary.

I'm afraid I don't understand, then. My understanding would be that it'd give people something to fight for.

[siiiigh.] Captain. I'm well aware of things for which people will fight. I'm not certain it's precisely wise to allow our captors to know we are willing to, however. Your disbelief in magic will be your downfall and I would hate to see this place destroy you because you chose to ignore it's dangers.

If they don't all ready know, I'm surprised. I'd figure that'd be part of the bargain when you kidnap a bunch of people and hold them against their will.

[... yeah, screw it.] Where I come from, magic's a thing of fiction. I'm sure you understand my doubt.

And fight we shall, but on our terms, not theirs.

[He's quiet for a moment, remembering what a girl named Lenalee told him about 'God' and 'the afterlife'. Fiction.]

Understandable. Forgive my offense, Captain.

Good plan.

None taken. [Something about his shoulders ease.]

As always. Letting your enemy dictate your actions is the swiftest way to defeat.

The offer of practical example still stands, Captain. That you might better understand what magic is capable of.
