[The communicator turns on with the image bouncing a bit as it goes skipping across the floor, obviously knocked from its place in a pocket. It's a few seconds later that a rather impressive black cloud finds its way into the picture, followed by a stumbling and slightly-worse-for-the-wear-looking Gilbert in its wake. There might be a choice word

[That about sums it up all right. Gilbert bites back a cough and glances at the communicator.]

Yeah. It didn't go exactly how I planned. [At all.] But I think the fireplace is usable now.

[ He felt like a salesman, but this was his mission, and one thing about Sephiroth was simple. He always succeeded beyond expectations. ]

[Gilbert blinks at that before shaking his head.] The house heats itself. There's a little box you move... [It's a thermostat, Gilbert. Way to fail at technology.] The fireplace is... more familiar. [And Gil trusts it more than technology.]

[ Sephiroth looks a bit surprised before jotting down a note in a journal before him on his desk. ] Your house is already equipped with Central Heating, you say? Hmm. [ That was interesting. He'd identified several structures that did not. Perhaps this city had been in a state of transition and only the effluent had heated homes. ]

Noted. Fireplaces can be very dangerous, especially if their flues aren't cleaned regularly. I was suggest caution.

[Gilbert just nods at that, considering the caution.] Mm. It's true. I'm fairly used to them, though. They're our only way of heating houses back home.

In the past, the same was true in my world. [ And then we started bleeding the planet to fuel our technology. ] And then we found a more viable power source.

[Another nod at that.] Then, you're used to something beyond even the technology here? [Man, ask Gilbert how amazed he is by electric lights and refrigerators.]

[ And then Sephiroth can try to explain holographic training programs capable of causing physical hard. Oh, and cell phones. ]

You could say that. I will admit, I miss my computer.

[Ok, Sephi, but you've got to start around the horse-and-buggy stage and work up from there. ...Gil will stick with his fireplaces and cigarettes.]

For me, it's the opposite. There are things here that my home has yet to dream of. [Pause.] What does a computer do? [If you say "compute" I'll kick you.]

[ Careful with that, Gil. Seph really could just tell you everything ever about the progression of technology. He's a huge Nerd. ]

A computer is a device similar to the one through which we currently speak, though it is capable of storing mass amounts of information, and due to commands written in it's storage, can perform tasks such as calculation automatically.

[ He TLDRed it, but he still pretty much said 'it computes'. ]

[Gilbert wouldn't know what the hell to do with that. Unless it was about guns. He can talk about guns pretty well.]

I see. [He kind of sees.] So then it must have a lot of uses. [Like a filing cabinet! Gil doesn't even know.] These communicators in particular are sort of a strange concept, I'll admit.

Computers are used to run just about everything in my world. Yes, they can be used for a variety of purposes.

[ He might be a little amused at your naivety. ]

[Gilbert nods at that. Yeah, he's pretty naive where technology is concerned.] I see. It's... interesting to think of how different worlds and different times.

[ He shrugs. ] Interesting, perhaps, but also inconvenient. It slows progress.
