There was something peaceful about the early morning hours in the city that were unusually peaceful. The eerie calm was often accompanied by a light fog that rolled in from the forest sometime during the preceding night that stayed until the sun warmed up the streets a bit by about ten in the morning. Unfortunately, this particular morning's calm fog was marred by the persistent thunderstorms that seemed to have begun shortly after six in the morning. The city's usual gray atmosphere seemed to be even more heavily gray as a result, not to mention miserably wet and dreary. Luckily, however, with the thunderstorms came a break in the humidity and heat that most of the city would be sure to be grateful for whenever they woke up for the day. The sky rumbled occasionally in a could-be threatening way, though most of the sound seemed distant for the time being. The streets were thoroughly soaked by the constant falling rain, the few dry spots that had survived thus-far were few and far between, and mostly comprised of thin strips of sidewalk that hugged the rundown buildings that made up the majority of the city.
Kenshin had woken up at his usual time, not at all taken aback by the summer thunderstorms. Even if the city seemed to be in a state of perpetual drear on most days, even Ruby City wasn't immune to weather patterns. It had initially been a discouragement to get out, but there were things that the redheaded swordsman needed to attend to, and he knew perfectly well how to operate an umbrella. He didn't give himself much time to lament getting wet. Once he was dressed and had cooked breakfast for himself and his less than energetic housemate, he stepped to the front door, slipped on his sandals, grabbed a plain gray umbrella he had found one of the other days he'd spent in the city and stepped out to greet the thunderstorms.
Luckily, it seemed he'd picked an hour where the rain had begun to slack off. He wasn't going to over look this advantage.
He had a few things on his to-do list, but last of all he knew he would need to make another trip to one of the stores that provided food. So far during his stay in the city, Kenshin had largely avoided the myriad of prepackaged and convenience foods, most of them being more than a little foreign to him due to his time period. He had, however, found a particular market that seemed to specializing in providing more fresh ingredients. That would be his target for later. For this early in the morning, however, Kenshin had a different target in mind.
That pink dojo.
He had to admit that despite himself he was more than a little curious. He'd heard hints of talk about the dojo before, through the watches of course. It was only the other day when he had seen the building with his own eyes from a distance that he had decided he wanted to get a closer look. Today, that was exactly what he was doing. Kenshin wasted no time, fully taking advantage of the lull in rainfall to close the distance between what he was calling home, and the dojo. Upon his arrival, he stood outside the gates that lead to the building, his head tilted upward as his eyes remained fixed on the building. He wondered, momentarily, what sort of use a dojo got in a city like this. It looked like a cultural anachronism, as if it had been dropped into the city at the whim of their captors, or perhaps on request of the captives themselves. For the time being, Kenshin stood in front of the building, his eyes remaining trained as they were. He seemed quite unaware of his surroundings, but should someone approach, they might find that he was not quite as unaware as he seemed.
