"Yes, yes there is," came the response, and Theta stepped around a corner so it wasn't a disembodied voice. "Welcome to Ruby City, I'm afraid you're stuck here." Her smile was apologetic, and she didn't seem to be hiding any malice, just blunt and to the point. Another new arrival, another introduction speech to be given.

Spock stopped immediately in his tracks - he could not stop dead in his tracks since he was obviously still alive - and looked around for the owner of the voice. Thankfully it was not some sort of unseen being, but a woman that was unfamiliar to the Vulcan.

"Thank you for the welcome. I am Commander Spock, of the U.S.S Enterprise. I am afraid that I cannot be 'stuck' here, as I must be present on the ship with the Captain. It is, in fact, imperative that I return to it. Is there no way for me to return?" Perhaps this was like the incident on Triskelion where Captain Kirk, Lt. Uhura and Ensign Chekov had been teleported mysteriously away.

"You are stuck here, and no amount of complaining is going to magically undo that. This is a pocket dimension closed off from all known worlds and independent to the flow of time around it. Should our captors see fit to release you, you will be returned to the very split second you were taken from, but it could be years by the time here before they do."

Her tone was curt and businesslike, mostly because it was the only way she kept herself from screeching in rage at the entitled idiots who thought that denying their circumstances would somehow undo everything and return them to their homes.

"I am prepared to offer you assistance in finding lodgings and sustenance, as well as assistance in using the local communicator, if you're ready to accept reality instead of saying you can't be in the very circumstances you're in~."

Spock listened to the woman before him with all the attention that a Vulcan would give. Stuck? Pocket dimension? Independent time flow?

"Fascinating." Was all he said at first as he processed the information. "It is more out of curiosity's sake than anything, but do you have any information regarding as to how I was brought here?" Spock paused to glance around before focusing back on her. "Or how any of us were brought here, as I am presuming that the residents of this city - excluding the 'captors' you speak of - are 'natural' residents."

He placed his hands behind his back, standing at parade rest form. "The circumstances I am in are not logical, but certainly very real and unchangeable at the present moment."

"No, there's not a single 'natural resident' here. Everyone here was kidnapped," she answered, surprised that he'd kept up with her and not needed any further clarification on what she'd already listed off. "Aside from the train, it's not clear how we're brought in yet, but we are working on finding a method of escape ( ... )

Hooray, mini-novels! 8D *is actually not sarcastic* XD vulcancommander July 11 2011, 16:44:31 UTC
"I find it interesting that, presuming the city is housing as many residents as I am currently trying to estimate, that there is no method of currency or laws that normal Humans live by in means of gathering food, general supplies and acquiring housing for a majority of living in the city." Spock put a finger to his lips in thought, silent for the moment before giving his attention back to her.

She had pulled out what looked exactly like his own watch - communicator, apparently - and began to explain it. Video and audio feed, and private message sender. This was all highly fascinating. What an interesting dimension he had been dropped into, with interesting gadgets and laws that he'd have to study at some point or another. Spock was keeping up with her fast-paced tutorial easily, and politely interrupted here and there when he didn't understand something, until she was finished.

"Have there been any sort of studies on how these communicators work?" He asked, holding up his own to give another inspection of the device.

\o/ I don't always write that much, but she has really gotten good about giving that speech quick. ergaleomancer July 11 2011, 18:19:13 UTC
"Currency is unnecessary as there's only two shops that require reimbursement. And while I frequent the tailor, it's easier for us to just trade our wares between each other and ask for errands from the rest. People are pulled here from different countries and different worlds, in some cases different alternate realities. Creating an economy based on that would be impossible ( ... )

"That is logical." This woman was proving to be an ample source of information - she was probably one of the residents that had been here the longest. This was an interesting city, and with as much time as he was going to have here, he'd have time to explore it ( ... )

His guess would have been half-accurate--she was a long time resident, but there were those who had been around even longer. "Exactly like a child with toys. They're capable of changing the whole of the area around us, or of changing things within our minds, or of manifesting our fears in reality..."

She sighed, shaking her head. "They do that routinely, whenever they get bored of our vague sense of status quo. There's a group of us who help the city through its crises, if you're able, you should join and help out. Especially if you're a competent fighter--unleashing monsters on us is a popular choice."

She smiled when he thanked him, and nodded her head. "Of course~. I am a country, it's my duty to help the people, doubly so since I am an ergaleomancer as well~."

"So our current surroundings could change at any given point." Spock mused aloud, putting a finger up to his mouth in a thinking pose. 'Fascinating.'

"Perhaps when I have settled and become familiar with this world, or dimension, whichever would be correct in calling this place, I will see into becoming a part of the group you speak of. I am not much of a fighter," Not without his phaser, and he didn't like the idea of violence in the first place. "but with studies on the monsters and their muscular, circulatory and nervous system, I may be of some assistance."

"This is the 'default', as it were," Theta explained. "More often they're prone to flooding it with monsters or tinkering with our minds than they are to changing the setting. It is possible, though, and has happened repeatedly."

She nodded at his explanation of what he was capable of. "Are you a scientist? Or a doctor?"

Spock nodded, in both agreement and understanding. "Children are prone to releasing disaster on their toys for the sake of entertainment, specifically Human children." He pointed out.

"I was the Science officer on the U.S.S Enterprise before I was brought to this place. I have studied a wide range of sciences, mainly in formal and natural sciences." He explained. "You stated that you were an ergaleomancer, but I admit to not be familiar with that career choice. I recognize the Greek portions of the name, but cannot pinpoint the meaning of the words to figure out what you do."

She turned to the map again and pointed out the clinic. "You should go to the clinic and introduce yourself at some point, I'm sure they'd be grateful to have your assistance. As to ergaleomancy~..."

She trailed off and reached into her pocket, pulling out what looked to be the communicator, so similar it was. She opened it, and, however, out folded a pair of arms and legs. She held it by the body, and held it out to him.

"Fetch-It, introduce yourself," she commanded, prompting the little machine to fold an arm across its middle as if bowing, then holding a hand out to shake.

Spock looked over the map, calculating the best route to get to the clinic that was marked on the map. It would be important for him to get to the clinic, but it was also important that he makes living arrangements as well. He did not want to seem rude and ditch his guide.

And he didn't have to ditch her, not when she pulled out her own communication watch. He leaned forward, brow arching up on his forehead as the watch unfolded arms and legs. It had no face, save for the one that all watches came with, which also served as its body. "Fascinating." He murmured as it reached out its hand. Normally Spock wouldn't shake hands, due to his sensitive fingers and palms, but it wouldn't hurt with this watch creation. He curled all but his pinkie finger to his fist, allowing the device to shake it. "You may control contraptions such as the communications device?"

"Oh no, this is my communicator," she answered, reaching into her other pocket and pulling out the device. "They just look similar. I built Fetch-It when ergaleomancy was first discovered."

Fetch-It shook his finger, then pulled its hand back to salute him. It seemed desperate to make a good impression on him.

"Fetch-It is a peculiar name for the device. Is it a sentient creation due to your help?" Spock leaned forward a little watched the device salute him, before giving his own Vulcan salute in return. Straightening up, he looked to her.

"I am enjoying our conversation, but I should find some means of shelter for the duration of my stay." Spock did not want to sleep outside during the night, not with the threat of monsters in the forest.
