Though cautious and careful, Nill did her best to try and follow after Kaoru in hopes of seeing what exactly these sky lanterns were. Being born only to be taken by scientists left little time for fairy tale like things. The only real windows to the outside world for those trapped in the laboratories were the books that they would so often throw at them and they were hardly lovely windows.

Language, comprehension, good vs bad. She learned them all through written word and experiences when she escaped and met Heine along her destiny's path. But nothing ever came up about trains that would kidnap souls to different worlds...that idea was so far fetched in her mind she could hardly comprehend it. So having a soul like Kaoru around was nice...

The tiny girl made her way through some of the thickets as she watched him light the candle and release the lantern in to the air. She stared in awe as it rose towards the heavens with it's soft flicker of light and idly she wondered if this was how stars were born. Each wish sent towards the sky that would be locked away until the day the wish came true.

There were more lanterns being set off across the city- Kaoru could see the little balls of light rising up from spots all over the city and he couldn't help but smile. It wasn't quite what he'd intended but after two years with the host club, he should have known better than to expect things to go to plan. In any case, the outcome was still as he'd intended. The sky was still full of lights. Kaoru had still got the spectacle he had planned.

Hearing a sound - he couldn't tell from where - he lowered his arms, scrubbing surreptitiously at his cheeks and pulling a smile.

"Hello? Is someone there? Want to help me send up the next lantern?"

Still rather shy, she peeked out towards him and slowly moved forward so she could at least be seen in the light of the soft glowing of the candles. Tiny wings fluttered behind her as they perked with curiosity at the ritual before her.

She glanced from the lanterns to Kaoru, confused but in awe at the beauty that she could never of imagined even in her wildest of dreams.

Kaoru smiled at her gently, picking up a lantern and unfolding it.

"Nill-chan? Would you like to hold this and I can light it for you?"

Knowing that he at least trusted her enough with something so pretty made her blush as she nodded happily. Carefully, her hands held out for the lantern and she took it with the utmost care she could muster.

He looked absolutely delighted when she took it - he couldn't be happier to be sharing this with her.

"Okay, you've got to hold on tight. You see this here?" He pointed to the makeshift fuel cell connected to the bottom of the lantern. "I'm going to light this, and then the lantern's going to slowly fill up with warm air, okay? Don't forget to hold on to it!"

IT'S OKAY;a; it happens! voicelessengel June 12 2011, 21:29:37 UTC
Holding it up just a bit so she could see what he was pointing to. Nodding so she could show him that she understood, Nill held on as tight as she could without damaging the brittle paper as she waited for him to light it.

A bit afraid though, she made sure to hold it out at arms length since-- well-- she didn't want to catch on fire.

Kaoru bent and lit the taper, moving to touch the flame to the fuel cell, which in turn flickered into life. Gradually the lantern began to expand under Nill's hands, filling with heat and light. He blew the taper out, flashing her another smile.

"It'll take about a minute or so for it to get going, but when it's almost ready, it will feel like it's about to tug free. And then if you want to make a wish, you can make it then." He shut his eyes, scrunching up his face. "You have to close your eyes and think it really, really hard, and then the lantern will take it up to the sky!"
