Barred Entries and Hidden Hearts [The Cathedral] limitless_land March 4 2011, 09:56:09 UTC
It would seem that all is calm in this sanctuary after the ruckus only days ago where the young trio fought each other. Too quiet, one would say... until a certain creature wrapped in chains is spotted in the back, waiting for whomever would attempt to enter and search this place for those who are lost.

Though, it seems to be guarding something... What could the darkness be hiding?

He'd said he was near the Cathedral, right? After searching around the general area outside, Liu takes a few tentative steps into the Cathedral itself. His staff is held in front of him, shedding a very faint light in the infinite gloom. The darkness and silence is a little unnerving, hiding secrets in the shadows. Quite literally, even, as Liu spots that creature.

"Guys?" Liu calls behind him, trying to keep the nerves out of his voice. "I think you have to come in here."

Jale steps in right after, the dull thudding of his boots echoing loudly throughout the huge Cathedral interior. It's quiet, but it's not the good kind of quiet. He lowers his newly acquired battle axe from his shoulder to a more ready position, halting beside Liu to appraise the the shadowy shapes on the far side of the building. There's something deeply unsettling about those shadows, something different from the Heartless roaming around outside.

This won't be easy, but it doesn't need saying.

"What's goin' on?" Sieg trots after the other two, not liking the feeling of the place at all. He never liked the place in general, but now it seems even more ominous than usual.

He gasps as he catches a glimpse of the movement within, but it's still pretty dark that he can't quite make it out- only guesses that it'd be another horde of Heartless. Frowning, he brandishes both his blades. "Get ready, guys."

The entrance to the door is guarded, a large keyhole guarded by the Heartless' claws. However, there was another creature that would need to be dealt with straight away, and it is bouncing up and down, chains rattling as it moves. The Shadow Stalker roars, disappearing into the shadows as it sinks into the cross and merges with it. The door is now barred from exit, black and silver chains appearing in the way and the stained glass windows. The Cathedral has now been corrupted by this darkness.

Be prepared to dodge, newcomers. For it is sending energy blasts of darkness at all three of you.

[ooc: dropping this for your own reference, friends!]

Hearing the thud of the door slamming shut, Liu looks over his shoulder just as the chains appear. "Did it have to do that?!"

So much for a possible strategic retreat or quick getaway. Then he realizes it's already attacking. "Gah!" Liu throws his hands up to block as the energy wave crashes into him, searing straight through his undefended side.

"Ugh, it's definitely not like the others. Everyone spread out if it does that again!" Falling back a little, Liu casts a quick Defense Canopy over the group, following it up with it's magic counterpart. He has no idea what this Heartless will do next, but he really doesn't like the look of those chains.

Jale escapes the blast in his direction with a hurried sidestep, the blazing energy radiating from the attack leaving a burning sensation along his side. Eyes narrowing, he heeds Liu's order and begins to run laterally, making a shallow cut across the room toward the possessed cross with a zigzag path in mind. Jale knows he's no good fighting from a distance, so he needs to get in close.

Maybe he can be a distraction, coming in at the fore. He's confident in his speed.

Well, looks like they don't have any other choices but to deal with this! Sieg leaps back at the sudden attack. "Whoa!"

That was close! -way too close. He lands in a crouched position, but not for long. "Where'd that thing go- Liu, Jale, you guys okay?!" He gives a nod at Liu before dashing in the opposite direction that Jale does. If he can get a good opening...

Whether it is dodged or not, it makes no difference. Instead the creature sinks out of the cross and flies up toward the many candelabras in this place. With luck it could be hit before it possesses one of them. If not, you had better hope to hit the object enough times to shake its hold before the beams of darkness begin to shoot at you all as it rotates...

"Fine, just a little jolted!" Liu backs up to a wall, hoping the distance will let him see the next attack in time to do something about it and keeping an eye on Sieg and Jale's positions.

Except for the part where the Heartless decides to go out of sight. "There!" Taking a deep breath, Liu straightened and started casting a Fusion Dome after it. He couldn't use it a lot of times, but if it weakened it a little at the start, this fight might go a little easier.

Feeling the energy start to build up, he cast the spell straight at the candelabra, the miniature explosion of light flashing briefly in the darkness of the Cathedral.

Jale rushes over to the candelabra, jumping in for an attack once the light from Liu's Fusion Dome fades away. The fact that the candelabra didn't break from the first hit is a bit surprising, but there's no time to wonder about it. The axehead comes around once from the side, once more on the backswing, and a last time from above -- but it still doesn't break.

Frowning, he jumps back to let someone else have a go.

That's where Sieg will come in! He already doesn't like how this creature's fighting- ducking into the very masonry of the building and then- Wait, now where'd it go?!

Since Jale had taken the high road, he'll just shadow him below. Well- now's as good a time as any for this...

Making sure that his friend's out of the way, Sieg raises a hand to call upon one of his own Marks- a blazing insignia tracing in the air before an eruption of flame like a solid, burning pillar arose from the ground, blasting up towards the dangling objects above, and maybe the Heartless itself if he could manage.

And the Heartless is released from the candelabra before it goes back to its original state. Now is the time to deal damage to the actual Heartless, friends. While it's unable to attack.

Shielding his eyes against the glare of the fire, Liu blinks as his eyes re-adjusted to the darkness-- only to find that the chained ball of darkness is now floating innocuously to the side- almost like it's stunned.

"It came out!" Liu measures the distance. Too far for anything but magic. But if it's stunned, now is a good time to attack. Calling up another Mark, he summons sand, hardly hoping a chance of silencing it would do anything, but any damage was good, right?

Wasting no time in waiting for Liu's attack to end, Jale concentrates on bringing up a Mark of his own. A pool of light flares up around him as an intricate, diamond-shaped emblem appears in the air to pronounce its lend of strength. Lightning crackles down around the Heartless, circling it patiently before exploding inward with a thunderous crack of energy.

Lesser enemies were often paralyzed by that Mark, but it might be wishful thinking to hope that this one would be as easily stunted.

In spite of things, Sieg couldn't help but grin. Of course he'd expect his friends to follow up, and they've all fought alongside each other for such a long time that there was a natural flow to everything.

Rising from his crouch on the ground, Sieg practically threw himself at the creature seconds after Jale had let loose with his attack. Shouting out, he swung with one blade, then the other, momentum backing his strikes as he delivers them full-force.
